Website links allowed and not?

ALL those ARE ok that you mentioned. ALL we try to do is stop spammers from signing up, signin in, and spamming us until we drop. And, trust us, it DOES happen. We do NOT mind links that are actually HELPFUL at all. OOIDA links are fine and I have links to them myself. Gas prices are fine. Look, all we try to do is stop people from using us as a FREE advertising spot. Look, if you or anyone has a good, helpful link that you think others should know about, go ahead! BUT, if we see members consistantly doing this, we usually find out they are indeed a company being sneaky and spamming, there's the problem. If you are genuine, then you are welcome to HELP others, but if we see you are a spammer (company in hiding etc., which we find via IP checks etc.) then we will delete those links. Also, there is no sense in posting links to trucking companies that advertise everywhere everyday and certainly can afford $9.99 per month for a link from here. Do you see what we are trying to do now?

 

Ok ole wiseone I seem to be alittle dense today maybe thats why I am still driving I have a web site that I feel will help drivers will you look at it and let me know if it is ok or if you have an Idea how I can get it out to drivers Belinda Williams's Website it is my web page and it is a great way to pass the long hours sitting thank NannyB PS this is a great site I have really injoyed posting strong ideas and passionate drivers thanks

 

I wonder why my post with some links to other truckers pages was deleted then about 2 months ago. I had put some links to some truckers who were posting audio blogs or podcasts on the internet and the post was taken down. I wasn't advertising or spamming as these truckers don't make any money from thier blogs or anything. They are just interesting to listen to. Yet I was accused of spamming and the posts taken down. I think theres a double standard here somewhere.

 

Trucker, I honestly dont think its a double standard, at one point a couple of months ago wiseone and turbo were coming up with the new TOS, if your links were deleted it may have been to some confusion as to what was ok and what wasnt. As long as the links fall under the guidelines that wiseone posted abouve they should be ok. I appologize for any misunderstanding by myself or anyone else if we made a mistake.

Well, this is not easy to explain and I can surely understand how some might be mad and think we are having a double standard. TruckerLew, I do see your point and you do have a good one; that really is my fault on that one. I think it has probably come to the point where we are going to have to allow NO links at all unless the members are Supporting Members, Mods, Admin.

Mods, please let me know what you think in this thread as well. We are still growing and need to come up with a CONCRETE link stance.

Maybe we should allow ALL links that are not OBVIOUS ads, spam, etc.? What do you members think we should do with this?

I really don't want a thousand spammers, scamers, etc., to ruin it for all, but if it comes to the point where we get overun by spammer signups, then I would rather shut the site down than deal with that.

Why do I say that? Look, I am the sole owner of this site, and I PAY for all of this out of my own pockets! No one has EVER helped out with one single red cent. That's right, not ONE! So, now I ask you all to understand WHY we (the Mods and I) do what we do. Why should I work so many hours and spend so much money doing this for million dollar companies and "silent" scammers and spammers to come in and post links for free. Do you all understand why now?

Look, if we can all come up with some way of enforcing a proper way of treating links, etc., then I'm all for it. Please post your ideas in here (members and Mods) and we'll go by that. If you do NOT participate in this discussion, then you'll have no one to blame for the way we go on this except yourself. We'll leave this open UNTIL Sep 17th, 2006 and then we will impliment it fully without further discussion.

 

Quite honestly I think only mods, and wiseone should be allowed to post links. Regular members could ask for a link to useful info, in a pm or open post in the forum to any mod/wiseone and they could post it. If links are allowed by just anyone even some supporting members it could get out of hand.....

The DAC link is here several times, and turbo has posted links to other sections or the FMCA rules to help posters with questions. There are enough problems here with spammers, scammers and posters who tend to make posts that are not within the TOS for this board. Just 3 or 4 days ago I removed 17 links/ads by the same poster...thats right 17 of them. I realize this is jmo and it may not be popular but there has to be some sort of control to the things that mods have to deal with that regular posters just dont know about.

 

Links should be treated just like junk mail, open them at your own risk. What's the big deal, just delete the spam posts. There are plenty of "legit" posts that I don't bother to look at, i.e. "whats your favorite music?" What's that got to do with trucks or the trucking industry?
Sure most links will be B.S., but no one says you need to open them.
I think this site has enough controls in place, lets not go overboard.
Mod's don't, and shouldn't need to play big brother, or sister. Some Mod's take themselves a little to serious.....
