Just a side note... that is a TND-720, the model before the x30's.

Had it so long I can’t even remember what model it is. It just works.

We use RAM mounts, bolted to the dash or wherever. We use garmins so we just get the RAM ballmount that's appropriate, but you could use their X-grip to grab the GPS if you wanted. Great products. We've got one RAM mount for the GPS and another with the x-grip for the phone which we're using for an ELD. Super stable, bulledproof. nothing ever falls off. set it and forget it.

The power cord seems to be the fix. It has mini USB (not micro USB) so I replaced with a generic cord from a cellphone accessory store. Only thing that sucks is I had to spend $40 to buy 3 different cords just to find one that works. First one from a truck stop advertised 4 feet length, but it's cheap and coiled, making it a functional length of about 12 inches. Second one from walmart didn't work at all. Went straight into the garbage. Lots of cheap chinese junk out there I guess. Burned up most of a day trying to find places that sold mini USB cords, then getting burned on garbage twice to boot. Would rather have spent $40 on a good quality one and been done with it, and saved myself some time. But good luck finding something like that these days.

P.S. Yes I have two RAMs also for different things and they're awesome. Worth their weight in gold. No room for more RAMs though. Lol.

those USB cables are tricky. Some devices (Garmins) require a cable that has the USB plug but has the datalines disabled. If there are data lines present they think it's time to hook to a computer, not charge & operate in the vehicle. You can modify a cable, but the whole thing's a PITA. Using a car charger with the appropriate length cable is fool proof. using phone USB charging solutions (though they have the same plug) can be problematic. I wasted a lot of time on this too.

On the RM's cord, Pins 1 and 5 are power, 2, 3, and 4 are the data pins. So if buying a Mini USB, make sure that is only has the two outer pins. You can look at it and see.

My RM 740 always falls of on bad roads. Like it was mentioned before I need to go for a updated magnet and call RM.

Or mount it so it's flush with the dash. We had problems with it falling off daily till we tried that (suggested in the rand McNally thread in the electronics forum here), it hasn't fallen off once since.
