I've got a 280" wheelbase W-900 and have only gone to a couple of places where it would have been easier to have a shorter truck. One of those has been changed and we no longer have to go through the plant so it is no longer an issue. I have not found anywhere that I wasn't able to get around, but some places are more fun than others. What ever you are comfortable with will work. As to weight, Oakley wants you to be able to put 23 tons in the trailer. I am 33,700 or so empty and can put 46,000 pretty comfortably most of the time. There are some trucks here that are heavier and some lighter but most are around the same weight as mine. The newer trucks with all the emissions garbage on them are a lot heavier than you would think. The new Cascadia with a DD-15 weighs more than my pirate ship. The only division where weight is a major concern is Hopper.

As far as a specific brand or model, there isn't one. A little bit of everything over here. A lot of Petes and KWs as well as a bunch of Freightliners, Internationals, Volvos, and couple of Macks for good measure. About the only thing I haven't seen is a COE, but I would love to build one and bring it on. I think an Oakley trailer behind a K-100 with a big cam Cummins would be a sight to behold.

Having said all that, I would talk to recruiting regarding your truck choice before committing to purchase. They have age restrictions and appearance is very important...

Which trailer do you pull? I'm considering moving over. I have a 2013 389 and have experience with pneumatic, plus the hiring area goes by my neck of the woods. When I pulled pneumatic I had a flat top 379 and was always juggling fuel and weight. My truck says its 19,000+. then you add the blower, tools and all my junk, it's gonna get heavy. I'm curious on the weight of a bulk pneumatic trailer.

I pull an end dump. My truck is 21,xxx with me and all my junk in it. I'm not sure what the requirements are for pneumatic. I talked to recruiting about all three divisions before I hired on and from what I remember the only one for which weight was a major concern was hopper. I was told as long as I wasn't going to pull a grain wagon they didn't care what kind of truck I leased on. I'm sure they would have turned me away if I showed up with a big house sleeper but short of that they didn't care.

I would put your truck on a scale to verify your weight. They were having a problem on the hopper side with people getting new trucks and going by the weight on the tag and they found out the hard way that the tag was off by a ton or more. Oakley got a bunch of dump and pneumatic drivers that way.

What swayed you to end dump over the others?
