When they first came out with the Freightliner condo, everyone went running to buy a condo. The JBs and Schneider’s all ran cabovers. Suddenly, the bigger companies started buying condos, and running teams and keeping drivers out away from the house for months at a time. And then drivers started living in the truck and their conjugal visits to the house were called, “home time.”
Now, they are marketing direct tv. Soon they will have free WiFi in the trucks. Why? For all the fat guys who have never worked any job or done any tough in their life, who live in their grandmothers basement to have a place to live when granny passes on.carhaulerjeff, Zeviander, bowhunter67 and 2 others Thank this. -
When emerging from Grandma's basement the new breed of prospective driver is demanding an Auto; cuss they are so tech. They read it on the internet.
Driving an X-box, hailing a Uber, and only enjoying sex with a mouse and one hand, has taught these folks that the push-buttons or joysticks are the only way to go.Zeviander, Brettj3876, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this. -
With that said, there is a increasing limitation to training newbies on the joys of manual. So they buy autos and push a button and go. It's mindless. However I have run a good auto at least once in my time and the wife did too. It wasnt bad. particularly in traffic.
I prefer a manual. I suppose the new trucks turn me off by offering 4 things, a tach, speedo, air pressure gauge and a auto switch box. yech... we should bring back the era of 70 gauges and that fuse box that takes up all the passenger side. Let's teach our newbies how it's done in the old way.
I'll get off my soapbox. It dont matter to me what it is as long it's 18 wheels or more and runs properly.Zeviander Thanks this. -
They have a new truck simulator video game , expect a flood of cheeto eating , dope smoking , couch potatos into trucking , it will probably have more of a recruiting effect then the trucking shows of the 70s had on my generation

You'd have to do a double take if I started talking about de-reg or saying I hate autos and don't ride the hammer lane @62
It really is sad though how many older people I've chatted with don't even know what engine is under the hood or thought every diesel on earth has def. Or the countless threads of ppl wanting to be owner ops and not even knowing the basics. Just floors me. And I'm just a kid still pretty much. Smh wish I around back in fun days -
I run junk... thank you .
