Why do drivers have to accept freebies

    So they can’t camp out in the fuel island for an hour anymore while they go get fried chicken, lottery tickets and scratch-offs. My heart bleeds. :rolleyes:

    It would actually be easier to manage then the current structure. Right now drivers can blame dm's and dock guys for their ineptitude. If it flipped and they had a simple base line to hit each day, i.e. i give you a turn from mn to new york, and with that run are leg minimums, you need to make windy by x time on x day ect.. if you cant its on you to call in why, if you dont then its a failed expectation. You get x number of a certain type and thats it, your done. But then it would be "unreasonable expectations" yada yada...

    If you're working for free, you're doing it voluntarily.
    When your alarm clock goes off signaling you it's time to get up for work; you're working for free beginning when the alarm clock rings. When that alarm rings, that's the beginning of your work day. So, when does your work day end? Maybe when you step out of the shower and put on regular clothes? The reason you took a shower is because you got dirty at work; it's directly related to work, so you should be paid to take that shower.

    I’m with you. You see guys come in late every day, slack all day, take a longer lunch leave earlier than you...and get the exact same pay. That’s you being punished for being diligent at your job. Every time some fool milks the clock, that’s you, the diligent worker getting punished.

    “Oh, but they monitor for the slackers.”

    Not good enough. A slacker will do just enough to keep his job. If I’m going full tilt and he’s doing the bare minimum, why should we make the same money? Can you imagine if the NFL worked like that? Wide receiver catches a pass, runs 20 steps and then stops. “Well, I’m getting paid anyway, why should I go all out?”

    We had that problem in food service. Get done early and they wanted me to go out and help another driver. For the same money. “But Six, he’s behind and we have our customers to think about...”
    I was here on time. He wasn’t. I went 100%, he went 50%, now he’s behind and you the manager want me to help him. How is that fair?

    It goes deeper than that...retarded managers who drive a desk and don't even know how to read a map would start questioning every decision a driver makes...I saw it at Crete. A once great company that got screwed up by a bean-counter boss.

    Way too many variables to complicate travel times, especially east of the Mississippi.

    Not to mention i did say you could call in with a valid reason! Heres the big #### difference,

    I want hourly! (I want to be a employee)

    Its performance based and i like it that way! (I want to run my truck as my business and do as i please)

    Gotta pick one and not pretend they are interchangeable

    We have one lump that runs about as far as I do. He typically takes about 3-4 hours longer to do half the work I do, so he winds up making more for less. Isn’t that something? :rolleyes:

    They contually let this fool get away with because they’re afraid of the “race” card, since he’s pulled it before.

    Maybe because I know whatever system is used, it will be more beneficial to the company then the driver, at least in most companies.
