Prime Inc Good Starting company?

Oh yeah, this coming from a guy who's still in school, hasn't set foot in a company truck yet, and was whining in another thread about needing to bring all sorts of fancy eggs and foodstuffs into a trainer's truck otherwise not knowing how he'd survive. Take he plank out of your eye before the speck on your brother's. Big man.

Get off your knees for Prime and let us know how it's going once you've slept in a moving bunk for a few days into your 120 day+ teaming stint.

There's no need to go to a company who wants to 'train' you by running teams. Driving while your trainer sleeps isn't how you're gonna learn and grow. That training method only goes to line the pockets of the trainer and Prime, inc by keeping that truck moving.

Get real. Prime is no better than some of the other bottom feeder companies everyone derides on here.

 

He should absolutely refund the money he charged you for his research!

 

Anybody reading the above post. Take note! It is nothing but a downward spiral of destruction. This guy is doing nothing but sharing the S!!!T of his heart.

Prime is THE best starter company. Prime has given so many people who had nothing. A chance at a darn good career in trucking. May God bless Prime. And Prime just upped their training pay to $800 a week, guaranteed.
And I probably won't be going to work for Prime. My good attitude toward home time paid off. I'm going OTR. My new boss showed his appreciation of my attitude toward home time. He's has a run through were I live, 3 times a month. He's giving me that run. He said he will make sure the routing is arranged so I can take 3ea, 34's, at my home each month. He also told me if I run like I said I want to. He has guys doing that, making somewhere in the $70'sK/year range. Others who take monthly home time, making only in the $50K/year range. That's right off the bat, to start.
That's what a good attitude does for you.

Insurance companies determine how much training time. Also, one other very good reason for two months of training.
I listened into a couple phone calls to my teacher at CDL school. A local company who pays good, hired some new CDL grads from our school.
The teacher was screaming in the phone: "She's finished! Out! Fire her!.. I told you to call me about grads before hiring. You didn't call!"
This girl is, as the teacher puts it: "High Maintenance" .....
What she did. Her first run on her own into Wyoming. Had 13 deliveries. She made 12. Then spent the night in a motel. Next morning she checked herself into the hospital claiming: dehydration. Had her mother drive over there, and take her home. She left the truck with the 13th delivery in Wyoming.
This is partly why Prime has a long training period. To weed out the idiots who pull stuff like this. They may drive ok. That's only part of the job.
To be honest... The above is so bad. It's comical.

 

To be honest...it sounds like you can't handle objective criticism and opinions differing from your own. While Prime may provide opportunity where opportunity hasn't yet shown itself to some people, it is by NO means 'The Best' training company out there. Unless you're incompetent at life, It doesn't take three months of sleeping in a moving bunk, while a trainer drives, to weed out people. Nor should it take that long to learn how to do your driving job independently. Makes me question why you have such a hard on for Prime. There are many other companies out there who won't make you 'train' for months on end before giving you the keys to a truck. Companies both bigger and smaller than Prime.

Get back at us when you make that 'Jackpot' $70k. You don't even know whether you're 1099 or W-2, what your rate of pay will be, what your accessorials will be...none of it. How long will you be training? Someone pulled the wool over your eyes long ago. Maybe they said you could bring an organic farm on the truck while you're training.

Simply put, students who are looking to become a professional driver would be well served to research all options before jumping at Prime because they 'pay well'. Companies such as Maverick, Roehl, hell even Schneider won't make you team endlessly.

What are you? One of those idiots who didn't bother to learn what he was doing before leasing from Prime? Or didn't even make it through orientation?

And I quote, from: Prime Inc. Home Page

"If you have obtained a CDL from an outside school, you will go straight to our Company Driver Orientation and then train with a TNT Trainer for a total of 40,000 miles. If the truck is moving, it counts toward your requirement of total miles. You will receive $600 guaranteed minimum per week for the first 5 weeks of training and $700 guaranteed minimum per week for the remainder of training. It typically takes about 2 months to complete this training before you can upgrade into your own truck."

It also goes on to state that Trainees after already having a CDL but less than six-months experience will be paid as follows, "Then $700 per week or .12 cent per mile will be paid to the student for the remainder of the training or no more than 6 months, once their Class A CDL has been obtained."

Doing the math, to make $700 per week at $0.12/mi means that the truck needs to move 5,833 miles per week...meaning a student driver/new CDL holder WILL NEED TO TEAM AT PRIME FOR 40,000 MILES.

Period.

Unless a student wants to sleep in a moving bed for two+ months and drive while their trainer sleeps, there are better options out there. It would benefit student drivers and new CDL holders to research companies thoroughly prior to starting out. In a few minutes of looking at the Prime website, I learned the above, plus, "During your training period, you can expect to be out four to six weeks at a time".

If the above fits what someone is looking for, great. If not, there are other outfits who train differently without using the student as a team driver.

 

So did you figure out whether you're 1099 or W-2 yet? How about telling us how you're being paid at this new jackpot opportunity?
