What's the most interesting thing you've hauled?

I got to a small town many years ago with load of explosives. The powder mag had not arrived so contractor got ahold of “someone” and I followed them to a cemetery where we unloaded into the morgue. It looked like a stone bunker. Official said it was the best storage facility we could come up with on short notice

Early in my career, back in 90 - 92, I hauled nuke fuel (Uranium Dioxide, Uranium Hexaflouride) from WA to wherever. There were a couple loads I hauled to JFK. It was kind of cool to have the GW closed and have NYPD and FDNY escort us across. FDNY would peel off once we were across and NYPD would take us all the way to JFK where the Port Authority would take over.
Sodium cyanide to various gold mines in the Northwest and Canada when I was with DuPont/Conoco, now Sentinel Transportation. That was a good job. I should have stuck with it.
Other than that, I guess the most interesting thing I can remember were some huge blowers that I hauled on my RGN to Disneyland for one of the rides in the Cars-themed park. That was pretty cool. Getting into Disneyland with 53' RGN is tight!
Oh, and 95' telephone poles from Galloway, BC to Carey, OH. Had to load them over the top of the cab of my cabover. I have a picture somewhere. If I find it, I'll post it.

And this one not so much the load,.. it was just a loaded 40ft container. But rather where and how it was offloaded that I thought was pretty cool. At Dulles Airport,.. and off loaded into he Russian Antov 124. And just so happened,.. a A380 passenger plane taxied by where we were staging. Another huge plane,.. but as the A380 is to the 747,.. the Antov 124 is to the A380. Humongus cargo plane swallowed 11 loaded 40ft containers.

Not NY.

Nebraska. Ive been told there is a flight of missiles in the area, but aint seen hide or hair of them, closest point to them would be Fort Collins. But that would be like half a state far away.

To this day I saw and know nothing.

Ive wondered sometimes... many times.

Im very happy I don't do holes in ground with one exception, Civil War Road up in Missouri where there is a nice limestone complex storing large amounts of food. That one is pretty nice compared to the closets...

 

Here's one of my Antonov pics,have lots.Loading missle launchers. Antonovs are just big world wide freight carriers,anybody can hire one. IIRC the going rate is about $35k an hour. Have had great and interesting conversations with the guys working/flying them.Fly anywhere,and everywhere,out for months at a time. Drive in ro-ro in the front,traveling bridge crane in the rear.

 

The guys in the one I loaded into barely spoke any english. They were all business,.. no conversation. I had seen pictures of the plane, but seeing it in person was an experience I wont soon forget.

I did not even know I would be directly offloaded into the plane until I was on site. I picked up the container in Laurel, Md,.. a quick maybe 60 mi down to Dulles. One of the easiest $1500 I ever made.

A few speak broken English,but once they realize I'm trying to have a friendly conversation,and I'm truly interested in their endeavors,they're very friendly. I have had lots of business dealings with the Russians over the years,and have found them to be very honest,straight forward and tough. I respect that.Here's a pic of one of the loaders,very nice guy,once he opened up.They will tell you where they've been in the past month,fascinating. Everday,another part of the world,one day Rio,next Iceland,next Austrailia,next,etc.,etc, they know all the worlds big cities names in English. Second pic is of them taking on fuel. They pay in CASH,all fuel,airport charges,etc.

 

Rather not say.Don't want to start a verbal spar about that stuff doesn't really pay that,you old guys are full of it,etc.........lets just say it payed over a dollar a mile,....which it did.

 

there's a great book 'Outlaws Inc',tells some of the flights n jobs these firms get upto,some 'interesting' cargo spaces hidden in those antanovs
