    Besides, chains will take paint off and mark up the chain down points worse than straps.

    Seems lots of the problems are the truckers don’t have the proper equipment, you’ve got to almost admire their ingenuity though. Look, I’ve only got 1 5/16 chain and 2 binders, how can I tie down 3 tractors?

    Most flatbeders love straps, and they are great for stuff like lumber and such but most heavy equipment and machinery needs chains. 90% of our hauling is heavy machinery, only time I’ll break out a strap is something like a sheet metal cabinet where chains would damage it. If there is some heavy steel on the machine to get a chain around, it’s getting chains. On the skid steer load, it’s more ignorance than anything, they don’t know the difference in a lumber load and a skid steer load.

    Happened yesterday, I went to load ceiling grid in Benton harbor. I check in and there's a covered wagon being loaded, all side kits and tarp on the ground. The driver is putting on straps attaching to the rub rail with hand winches. I tell the loaders no way was he going to be able to put the side kits back on. They told me he started at 1030 and it was now 1430. They ended up loading me outside, and when I look to see how he was doing he had taken all the straps off and was trying to put those j plates on. Not having the proper equipment makes the job that much harder. In this case it was not the proper trailer for this freight. Wonder how he made out with his eld?

    Don't you think that winding out the ELD and then telling dispatcher sorry, no delivery in morning. Not until I have had my 10 off doing a spot of loading with a covered wagon.

    That's lazy in my book... Ive gone into logan, toss a coil or three, secure it, tarp it, kit it and go to williamsburg overnight no problem. That brewery is going to get their can stock one way or another. Aint no time to be lazy and snooze overnight.
