Can an O/O with their own authority purchase insurance through another carrier?

I’m not sure your title of post, and then content quite match. Can you clarify?

 

If they are self insured, yes they can insure you.
Just be careful what they charge bc self insured companies post a bond. It costs them pennies on the dollar to do so

Also yes you have to have the phys-dam, liability and cargo through them. The only insurance you can buy on you own is bobtail, if you are running their numbers

Unless carrier B has no true authority

And thru the leased-on, they deduct for insurance

 

That’s kinda what I gathered from the question - I think @LoJackDatHo got it, if your understanding of the question is correct.

 

I take it as though the 0P is asking if he were to lease on to a carrier and run their MC and DOT numbers, he would have to run there insurance with the exception of bobtail, which he is allowed to purchase on his own. Now if he had his own MC and DOT authority he can run his own insurance but the carrier with then act as a broker to give him his loads in which case they would have to have a brokers license

What TYPE of insurance do u carry...please break it down for us. I.e. coverage / limits (on the one u are paying for on leased truck)

 

If you are getting your own authority, then you need to get your own insurance that will be tied to your company, you cannot run another carriers insurance on your authority. My understanding is you can only run another carriers insurance if you are truly leased on to them, in which case as I said in the statement before you would have to run their insurance
