But... if you have good credit, you should shop for a good rate. Landstar is up around 9 something percent. You could get about 6 if you check around.

 

I'm just not an advocate of having your own trailer. You cut yourself out of all the pre loaded freight, and that is substantial.

 

There is certain advantages to both ways , and I don't know what the new contract pays for your own trailer but my trailer made me an extra 575$ last week .
I've never regretted having it but to each his own

 

Definitely shop around for interest rates on any loan regarding a trailer. If a person doesnt have their own trailer before arriving at LS I tend to suggest they wait to see how the drop and hooks work for them. Personally there is little to no drop and hook in our out of my home in Omaha and I prefer to do more logistic minded loads so having my own trailer allows me the ability to carry equipment to serve those loads. The trailer generated revenue has more than made up for the freedom of the drop and hooks I gave up.

 

so is landstar still the place to go ? I'm really thinking about buying my own truck and going this route just want to be sure this will work out . as for being my own boss I'm pretty much that now just for another company and I'm currently in charge of 21 drivers . any info will help thanks

 

How are you in charge of 21 drivers? And why would somebody in that position want to drive a truck over the road? Not asking to criticize. I'm just trying to learn stuff. I'm in my first year still...

 

Have you ever sat at the counter at a truck stop and really looked and listened to the people there? How would you like to try and manage 21 of those?

 

I've been there...in the right circumstances it can be good...but in some it's not worth it. I left a six figure job as a fleet manager for a chemical company to come to Landstar. It was the right thing to do.
