I was excepted by Roehl, I go to orintation Jan 12th. Oh, Im a newbie. In the "offer letter" it explaines some policies. I have to put a deposit of $60 on a tractor and kingpin lock. OK, Im new to this kind of trucking, so I guess I have to do this. Of course it states it's refundable. Heres the kicker, It states "If you want to sign up for Pre-pass or EZ pass it will only cost you a $1.00 per week.:biggrin_2551: What's up with that! Can some one explain this. Oh, I will be a company driver. By the way, should I look for any other weekly fees?????

Roehl charges you $1 a week for the EZ Pass for anyone that drives for them; company driver, whatever. You can opt out of the program and pay all tolls and get reimbursed for them 100% on the next weeks check, but who wants to do that? I didn't mind the $1 a week all that much, rarely had to slow down and sit in line at a scalehouse so it saves alot of time over the course of a month, etc.

The kingpin lock, doorlock, ID badge, all your credit cards is a $100 security deposit, taken out of your check $10 a week for 10 weeks once you are issued your own tractor and all of these things.

Good luck getting the security deposit back once you leave the company and you have turned everything back in. I've been on my local job 4 weeks now since leaving Roehl and still waiting on my $100 check. LOL! Wonder if I'll ever see it? :biggrin_2554:

    JWinNC,

I highly doubt you will see any of your money. Sorry but Roehl is just like the majority of companies out there. Good luck though.

This what I don't get. I have worked for five companies in my driving years. Including my current and hopefully last employer, I have never had to pay for anything in regards to the company. Why do drivers feel it is somehow OK if they are charged for certain items by their company?

To me, this goes against all logical thought. I work for you. You pay me. Don't expect me to pay you in order to work for you. Jesus, my head hurts now.

    Drive safe

There are a couple of ways to look at this. First off, from the driver's standpoint, and the one that I believe:

This is unmitigated bull schidt. [IMG]
(You asked for a salty answer, and you got it.) This is just another way for the company to force the driver to pay for stuff that benefits the company. It should not be.

OK, now, as devil's advocate, the company point of view:

The deposit is just to insure that you take care of equipment. That you don't lose it or damage it or sell it, and then come crying for a replacement. The EZ pass fee, is just to help us recoup some of our costs, and is really a benefit to you. It saves you time, and time is money. It saves you paper work and hassle.

I think its pretty cheesy that you have to put a deposit on the locks but, if its ONLY a deposit well.......
As far as the dollar a week for the EZ Pass, even though they should just put them on all of their trucks without charging anybody anything, I guess for the time it will save you in the long run it might be worth it to bite the bullet and do it. Sheesh who thinks up this crud anyway?

Really??? Are you drivers really complaining a 1.00 aweek charge for ez pass? Are you all really that petty?

Newbie let me tell you the 1.00 that you spend per week will be the best dollar you spend in your trucking career. The ability to by pass scales alone is worth thousands! And literally save you thousands! The more scales you run over increases your odds of getting pulled out back. You go out back in some way this is gonna cost you money! BELIEVE THAT!!!Do you really wanna carry hundreds of dollars around with you at all times to travel the east coast highways with all the toll roads? Trust me that EZ will benefit you far greater then it will your company! Look at it this way. Every time you get a green light to by pass that scale your company has to pay that state 1.00. Yet they are only charging you 1 buck aweek?
I have been out here a long time. When I started EZ pass wasnt around but after having it the past several years I woudnt drive for a company that didnt offer it. Keeps me outta the scales, I breeze thru the toll rds. Take a trip thru Chicago one time with all the stops to pay toll. YOU WILL SURE WISH YOU HAD IT!

The deposit for there equipment is fair... Good luck to you in your new career it will be what you make it

1 dollar a week for the pass . Do you really think that will help motivate a driver to keep that EZ pass clean and shiney ? Is that dollar taxed ? Sorry but if a company hits me with little nit picking stuff like that . We're already off to a bad start . Whats next pay toilets in the company yard ? .50 cents a week for Pens ? A dollar is chump change we all know this but its the principle of the matter that bothers me . For a guy just starting out though . Heck you got yourself a start and thats not the easiest thing for some people in this business . I know it took me a little bit before someone trusted me behind the wheel . Maybe i'll post a picture of myself and you'll see why . Anyways that pass will save ya big time . 1 buck dont sweat it . Good luck at your new job .
