It’s all good, some of the fellows rightly refer to me as the OGB...old grumpy b.....d! A lil advice about the route around Chicago, stay on 294 all the through heading west, I personally HATE that f’n cloverleaf from 294 to 290 and then getting on 90. 294 of course runs all the way up to 90 and only one exit and no hassles!

The creep option is turned on by the service team, basically when you use the accelerator to close the clutch you can remove your foot and the truck will continue to move forward or backwards.

####! Will definitely do that next time, the clovers are annoying.

Yeah, slept 4 hours and woke up cold. Idle. Lol

Why the frick is it not turned on in this truck, I cant imagine anyone would want to operate an auto without it. I tried the low option and paddle down. Manual and paddle down, reverse and paddle down trying to find it lol.

Heck, its not turned on in the day cabs either. And you can bet they back up more way often than the otr guys.

I feel for ya though man. I've been driving for a good while and can do a fair job of backing up a 53 and that auto pete made me feel like an idiot backing into a nice easy spot.

Some good advice I got on here was to feather the peddle. It helps you find the sweet spot without rocketing backward.

They give the driver the choice some prefer not to have it engaged...personally I like the option but to each their own.

Its almost like you gotta give it just enough to engage, then hold it absolutely there because more jolts you and less means you have to start back over.

Its inevitable from what I heard to avoid going into an auto. I was told theyre swapping em out and go all auto. Maybe just a rumor. I wouldnt mind an auto, but I dont want one without the creep option engaged. When youre tight backing, last thing you want is it to jolt. My brief trial with covering the brake and giving it gas didnt seem to help. But like I said, it was brief.

The fleet will transition to the Peterbilt EPIQ product which are all automated. Now the current versions have 10 spd gearboxes which other than a computer controlling the clutch and shifting are exactly like the manual 10 spds.

The 2019 trucks should all use the newly developed 12 spd transmission which has been designed from the start to be automated and compete with Volvo and Freightliner.

You do end up adjusting how you apply the throttle to feather the clutch, overall it’s still easier in a manual but not that difficult to adjust to. Hopefully the new box lives up to its billing and improves drivability a notch.
