I don't think these guys expect the boom to continue forever, at least I hope they don't. That would be foolish. However I do believe they are smart for taking advantage of the opportunity in front of them.

only way things will catch up is with a whole lot more drivers entering the industry which I don't see happening unless company driver pay goes up a lot.

And it will. Not just because of increased freight rates but also the lower corporate tax rate. That alone will have a huge impact on labor rates across every industry.

The Shippers, receivers and companies will adjust. There's no way the rates y'all are posting about will be sustained or allowed to continue by brokers and companies. Shipping rates are paid by the end consumer....ie. shoppers and eventually if the rates don't flatten out the shopper will see a price increase then they buy less or not at all then volume declines and we're back to cheap freight.

Now I'd love to see the rates stay up and continue to increase because eventually it will benefit all drivers however with a huge spike if it stays high or for an extended period it will slow consumer spending. That hurts the industry, does not help it.

That would be logical but we are talking about trucking here, logic is out the window.

Most these trucking companies just want cheap drivers, not pay up and expand to meet demand.
Look at what all these OTR companies are paying, mostly .40 something cents a mile for experienced drivers, sometimes less.
The O/O programs of these carriers are even worse, $1 a mile and we dispatch you!

All this can be resolved if these companies pay up but just look at what Schneider has done to their O/O program you can see why that doesn't look promising.
