There is just no way I could get any restful sleep while fully clothed and wearing my boots. Hats off to those of you that can though.

It differs from person to person, but a dust mask, Howard Leight hearing protectors, safety glasses, spare key in a magnetic key holder are must have items for me.

I travel heavy, but it does not pay extra.
36 inch pair of bolt cutters, flotation device, 150 feet of rope, swim fins,
    red cape.lol

If your a company driver, pack light and make sure you have funds to get home from anywhere.

That's what I carry with me. XD-S 9mm. Spare mag, flashlight, spare sweater, small medical kit. It's my EDC and never leave home without it.

You don't need to duplicate your eld on paper. You keep paper logs in case the eld crashes. You phone operations, get the current & last 7 days faxed or emailed to you. Yes it is a PIA.

I own my truck, so I have alot more in it than a basic company man.

You'll want a good flashlight, thumper, and raincoat for starters. 2 spare truck keys.

I carry lots of tools, probably more than I'll ever use.

You'll want spare fuses ( that's a DOT requirement ), and an assortment of lamps that your truck uses. I carry shark bite couplings for air lines, especially the trailer.

In time you'll figure out what you need for nuisance repairs that take minutes, but will stop you, if you are unprepared.

10 days of socks, underwear, and your other clothing.

Myself and others have whole detailed threads on food, and road survival for n00bs.

    Read those.

I never leave home without my American Express card. But Capital One card is what's in my wallet.

We had a driver call in during winter with an issue that required something as simple as a pliers and screwdriver to fix. He said all he had with him was a fingernail clipper. A 5 minute fix turned into a 3 hour wait for repairs. Yeah, some of us like to try and minimize downtime as much as possible.
