Tax ID, the EIN, you are tax exempt rolling stock, the same goes for tires, parts batteries, etc. I have never paid sales tax on any truck I have purchased, other than FET, and there is no way around that.

It's been a few years since I bought a truck but I'm pretty sure TN will charge you sales tax. I don't ever remember not paying it.
I've been told you don't have to pay FET on a glider, but I don't know if that is true. -
IFTA seems to be tied to IRP. Company I'm leased to pays IFTA on my truck. Do they register the truck in IRP or do I?
I've never even heard of IRP until the title got held up by GA. -
No sales tax and no property tax on vehicles over 26000
They will not hold your title. They will send the title to your bank.
Make sure to go to DMV to with title, dot, Vin verification, mechanics Certification that did the dot, bill of sale, printed Certificate of good standing for your LLC, paid 2290, insurance, ....good luck. -
Not in commiefornia! You still have to pay even though you are registered out of state under IRP if you live in the state and purchase the truck in the state.
Hell if you have an LLC in this state you have to pay a minimum of $800 franchise tax every year weather or not you made a profit. Need to leave this over taxed liberal POS state! Ok my rant is over.... For now lol -
Short answer irp and ifta are two separate “organizations”. International registration plan and international fuel tax association. Irp was set up as a way to “apportion” plates so companies didn’t have to register with 50 different states. Basically unlike a car where the county and state you live in get the “sales” tax, the “tax” you pay for a plate gets spread out. They simplified it for new registration and they basically spread your first year out to all 48 states.
Ifta was set up so the fuel tax can be spread out. You get your plates thru irp. You get your little sticker that states you are good with your fuel tax from ifta. You could technically run without an ifta but you would have to stop before each state and purchase a trip permit. Big pain in the rear if you cross state lines even more than once a year.
I paid my plates and my company handles the ifta as part of my percentage. They can both be handled at the big tag office for the state of Georgia but I do believe they are trying to push both of these to be handled online in the near future. -
They do want you to do it online but the website wasn't letting me see irp at all under my login. Finally got it taken care of by going to the office in ATL. Apparently a trip permit I applied for but never finalized was holding everything up and not letting GA to see where IL had me register in IRP.
Thankful for not having to write a $700 check to get this taken care of.
