I drive haul and tow . We are allowed to haul Landstar freight and the dreaded U Ship but never works out . Just seems like it isn't worth it and I stopped checking them. I have flip up where I can haul two smaller cars and once in a while a trailer as a bonus. I will never get rich but am pretty consistent with freight and comfortable with compensation .

I was thinking along the lines of a truck like yours . I am thinking about a 60 series , maybe 12.7 , single screw . I would have the frame stretched add a flat bed with a dove tail . I am trying to get an idea of what kind of mileage a truck like this would get . The truck bed and the trailer being hauled would probably be no more than 8k and the trailer towed behind would be less than 8k.
A real sleeper would be awesome, my Dodge has the back seat area striped out . I built a bed but it's all bed with storage under it . -

RV transporter. I have a 1999 International haul and tow , single screw , 12.7 . 52" sleeper . Two campers out - usually two cars back . I drive 62 mph . 20,000 mile average is 11.26 mpg.

Thinking about turning my 1995 KW T600 single axle into a haul/tow also. But if the Rv places would not let me with my own Numbers. Run there campers out, then my own loads the rest of the time. Would not be any reason to even look at the RV side.
Old truck is tight 620,000 miles. 11.1 Detroit with direct 10 speed, 295/70 22.5 tires, along with 2.92 rearend.
The company's that get people to lease them only. Are the ones making the money. They get people to pull these campers at below cost. And then want them to kill there self to get back empty. Where they can move there next camper. As long as those company's are allowed to work this way. There will be no change. -

The RV transport companies puts in their leases exclusive to them getting your own load you're still going to be paying them at least 20% cars are coming from Central $0.33 a car do the math single pulls move one at a Time come back and get another and when it comes down to it they make more money

I think that if you can stay with the same transport company for several years you can negotiate a “non-competitive” back haul agreement, but don’t count on it until you can establish yourself with the company.
Right off the bat the big three do not allow any self-generated hauls under their numbers. It becomes a massive liability issue. Remember - you are a contractor until you de-lease from a company. Until then it’s their ball you are playing with.Last edited: Jan 9, 2018
