I risk hitting my head on the trailer, but every time I hook up I duck my head under there and look at the jaws to make sure they are locked. Then I forward tug and reverse tug hard to assure it’s not coming loose. I also look at the handle to make sure it’s all the way in, and listen for the jaws to close. I never want that picture to happen to me if possible,JolliRoger and Art Vandelay Thank this. -
that happened to me once many years ago, did all of that and then went around a corner and the trailer came off. Called a wrecker and we hooked up again and did it all again and he was watching and it did it again. Bobtailed back to the terminal and after inspection, found out that it was the teeth under the 5th wheel, that when inspecting, a driver would never see. Still the company that I was driving for was trying to hit me with a preventable even after the mechanics said that there was NO way that I would see it

The number of times that I have pulled into a truck stop and seen the same, and not just Swift, but many others, including the so called super truckers. Heck, many times I have done the same thing at times, if safe to back out in the morning and it might be for reasons, get out of the wind or the setting sun when it is hot
austinmike and spyder7723 Thank this.
