Shortage of Drivers in Oilfield

Hourly or percentage based. Low end of my stuff is $1.11 for less than 20 miles.

$1.11x240 barrels x 30% is $79.92 for maybe 3 hours of work. But that's hazmat. My water hauling is hovers around a dollar a barrel with some variations but I have a 170 barrel trailer

 

There are a lot of these type drivers in the oilfield. But there are still some companies that are paying well. 2018 is supposed to be a busy year

 

Question, who trained you to drive in the oil patch. School of hard nocks, company or other? I was a heavy hauler for earth moving equipment for 5 years for building drilling sites. I know the ins and outs.

 

Dang! Seen quite a few of those in the patch. head to head, head on 4 wheeler, just a roll over and pulled in front of somebody......a loaded one rolled through a red in Big Lake and almost got me last year...whew!
Wasn't a problem tho.....1-800-his-boss solved that one in a hurry. ( Had too! Ran it on purpose and very obvious intent or very stupid , either way doesn't need to be behind wheel )

More sand guys than water and never an oil hauler tho......and a couple of the water guys folded up last year too.

Water guys tell me they can't pay more cause oil guys won't pay more. Water guys trying to hold line at $90 an hour ( very fair ) and I believe them. My guys still tight with the dollars.......still question every need.

 

I came into trucking planning on hauling crude. My timing as usual was horrible because as soon as I got my CDL they stopped hiring and everything ... well you guys know better than me.
I dont care about the volatility since job security means very little to me but I do care a great deal about PAY and quality of life.
My dedicated gig gives me over 1000 a week and home several times a week. I also get to bed before midnight.
I will give that up but not for 1200 to 1500 a week.
Up the ante and I will be there will bells on.

 

Im not sure about the US oilfield...but up in Canada...the rates are in the dumper. Its tough to hire guys back at the wages they want (and deserve) with the low rates.
As the patch picks up...hopefully rates will rebound. But its slow going right now. When I came back to oilfield just over a year ago...oil was just about $40. Diesel was about .80 cents a litre. Today oil is over $60....diesel is 1.10 a litre...and my rates have barely moved since I came back.
Old O/O told me the other day....takes years to get the rates up where they should be....but only a week for them to drop to nothing.

12 to 1500 a week ain't enough.
I get that now on the road.
Bring home 2 grand a week, I'm listening.

 

I’m hitting 2 and 3 a week hauling sand with elogs , but sometimes it’s slow and I make 15 or 1800 , we got a raise today tho, idk we are making money out here hauling sand
