Newer trucks can't handle extreme cold?

    This is the warmest I have been in 4 days (17°). My old N14 other than bad fuel 5 days ago has had no real problem with temps well below zero for days.
    However, I have seen no less than 3 dozen newer "modern" trucks fail at -20 and colder. Is that a byproduct of the new EGR engine?

    DEF freezes. College edumacated engineers also locate things in stupid places...I've seen fuel filters outside of the frame rail away from the engine.

    Company I was with a few years ago had Petercars, and the fuel filters were outside the frame rail in the wheel well. My Mack has the filters mounted right off the block. On a cold day, I'd fuel up right next to a company truck and within 30-40 miles, they were having fuel issues, gelling and blocking the filters. My truck had no issues at all.

    My Volvo was a '12 it saw -14.

    Casper has been to -9. He's also a '12.

    I know my APU has running a lot.

    I want to buy this girls 379 with a 12.7 in it, but my cousin says he throwing in the towel. So no driver.

    When your near 0, truck stays running.

    I ran my APU last night and had no trouble starting at 10 this morning. I will let the APU run tonight as well.
    Think I am going to keep my oler truck.

    You have to remember these newer common rail injection engines don't return fuel back to the tank like your N14. Older engines generally had a #10 supply and a #8 return and the tanks would get pretty warm from all the returned fuel.
