Well, Whipper, looks like you were in the right place at the right time with the right equipment and plan. Good on you.

My plan is to eventually get out of the truck for good and run a couple from home.

    Thank you,
Many have left Schneider before me and I've followed in their footsteps.
Too many of us drivers are unpaid and underappreciated, if drivers strive for better it will be better for all of us in the long run.
Let the cheap freight and cheap carriers have their stuff sit!

    driverdriver and TennMan Thank this.

Megas aren't Megas because they haul cheap freight they get that big by being ruthless in every aspect of the business they're in.

I had authority from when i got into trucking out of high school in 95, even through the liquidation of almost everything during 07/08 and voluntarily suspended it at the very end of 12. Signed onto mercer 8 days later with no ambitions of ever activating it again. But the last 6 months of this crazy hot market had me very seriously reactivating it. Would only take about 3 days till i could stay pulling loads under my own mage again but something keeps me from pulling the trigger. Back in March i was worried it was a false jump and would flatten back out, but it just keeps getting better and better.

    Spyder,
You have been around a long time seen a lot etc. But there's a new Sheriff in town. It's called overload of data. I got a little story I like to be a day or two out it makes me feel good. But with these "Spot" rates going crazzy you have to wait to pull the trigger. I did Denver to Tulsa OK and back last week 3 days 1500 miles 6300.00. So now I'm on a 4.00 1250 mile load Denver to Jackson MI. I need to be home on Friday night. Loads 2 days out good but not as good as same day (Spot) etc. So....

I ring a broker I've done good work for in 2017. Mike Dave here how's your New Years. Good yours? Mine awesome. Hey you got that Wendy's Bun load going back to Denver I will be right by there empty Thursday at 8am. Yeah I got it you good with 2850.00 like last time....ah Mike we know what the market is right now. That load might go to 5500.00 on Thursday...hell no never that high he says... I say I'm not looking to be that guy but if we can do 4.00 a mile now I'm willing to take the load. Hang on.....can you do 3.80 a mile? Nope but I can meet you at 3.90 he says ratecon in your email. Thanks.

Sure I'm leaving money on the table but it's great for me and fair for him. $4100.00

@freightwipper ahould be able to run his trucks as he wishes I know he pays his employees above market. We all have goals and expections out here. Just saying

    Be Safe Out There

The info you posted said there were less trucks...guess what..most are still off..but i do understand the rates are going up...i think they will stay a bit up and level out somewhat....but i don't think they will be going back to pre winter rates though...we'll see how many trks really come back out next week being the mandate came close to xmas...
