Also if they agree to pay say 500 bucks a day tell them you have to think about it and look around at the local power only work. If there's anything good say yes and profit. You want a round trip run basically. Right now there is a lot of really good freight on the boards and not all of it even requires a trailer.

They rescheduled the delivery for live unload in two hours. That's fine. That's about when my 10 hour break has been satisfied and I could move. Because of this outcome (Thank God!), I did not press the "more money" issue, maybe I should have but I feel it is a fair resolution. I also feel that I am too soft in the business, I don't have the necessary "greed" in me to take advantage of these situations or too much of a pussyy to take some bold actions like going back to a shipper.
They paid good for this one: $4500 and 900 miles...

    Glad it worked out.

How do you guys think that if they wanted a dropped trailer and a driver is sitting there with owners property that the customer wants to use or keep, that this isn't a refusal to unload in a situation like this?

As much as I stress this is a service business and we make our money by making happy customers, my property don't sit idle without compensation.

Dropping a trailer without compensation loses me money.

You aren't supposed to push for more money in this situation. Especially not with that rate. This broker will remember that when you had the chance to be greedy you weren't. Since he probably wouldn't have paid you even if you had asked banking the goodwill is better.

It's like when my produce customers do something SUPER ####ty and I pay some guy 500 bucks out of my own pocket. I could ask the customer for money... but better is telling them that I took care of it and paid the man and to remember me next time I'm in a jam.

I do favors for everyone I can basically. Yeah a lot of them are pieces of #### who don't understand reciprocity, but then you know what kind of people they are and can proceed accordingly. When you run into someone who is willing to have a longer term business relationship it pays for an awful lot of ########.

EDIT: Basically the higher your rate is the more BS you should tolerate before asking for more money. Failure to adhere to this concept will get a note written in the brokers TMS that you're going to gouge them given any opportunity... And that note will keep you off freight that pays well but has problems. You want those loads, because while they are annoying they are also probably 4 out of your 5 best loads for the year.

That's just a desperate shipment , they had to load on the last moment in 2017. Typically, they try to have you haul it for 2500 - 3000 at best.

That makes me laugh cause I remember I had some cash burning a hole in my pocket to buy a brand new trailer at the end of 2014 during those heady days. I picked it up in Jan 2015 just in time for a 2 year freight slump to start. Should have seen it coming but hindsight is always 20/20. One of the worst mistakes I ever made lol. I don't see that in the near future now but I'm still just cautiously optimistic. So jump right in driver!
