Truck Blown Over On I-95 Bridge In Maryland

Any bridge is like that really. The problem is that you are in a Noreaster storm and when that does happen that river focuses the sinking cold air down low and narrow and because the air itself is being compressed, it will pick up speed.

That tydings bridge is not exactly a good one in a storm. I prefer to use the Hatem Memorial just downriver next to it even though it might still be a toll.

Alternate is Conowingo Dam, a hydroelectric ones. They have walls upriver side that are pretty good. Otherwise I guess we are all sitting in Delaware waiting for the restrictions to come up.

I have been blown against rails on bridges before in storms, she will come up on one side of wheels thinking about going over with me standing on the fuel tank wondering what bones I will break on the steel grate below rather than take the 200 foot fall.

 

I am guessing they were told to go regardless. That or they were not aware of needing to avoid the bridge. (first I have heard of it as well)

I always move the the middle lane and pucker up below the belt!! Ive been behind another truck who's right side axles were lifted off the ground and I don't even know if he realized it or not ...... Its windy up there even when its not windy.

 

The Millard Tydings.... My pals know why I like it (@4mer trucker, @Longarm, @Mike2633, @207nomad, @HalpinUout, just to name a few)...... But yeah, in inclement weather, she's sure to be a B. The wind funnels right thru the gully on a bad day.... I'm always wary of East-Coast water gap bridges (the Chesapeake Bay Bridge especially) in bad weather.... Even the Piscataqua Bridge (I-95) from Portsmouth, NH to Kittery, ME has a 'High Crosswind' sign.... There's a sign for a reason.

 

See they passed a law in Wyoming if you violate that restriction like SUPER G, and roll, 30 days in the clink, like $1800 fine, you get to pay for all the hazmat / fuel clean up, and all the wrecker, WSP fees.

And yea there's dudes that still do it, and yea they roll, and then go under the lesson.

Mackinaw Bridge in Michigan had traffic lights to control units. Weight was not a factor as I usually had a 5 axle trailer loaded. You just stopped and waited while heaving back and forth as well you had to stay in curb lane for that awesome view of the lake a couple hundred feet below I recall bridge cop escorting me across under some conditions.
