Hey all,
I just applied for the OTR tanker position out of Charleston. I have had my CDL for about 8 years but only have 6 months of OTR experience (not recent). Most other jobs have been local class A or B with a few EMT jobs mixed in after the military. I searched the forums and could not find anything specific about Charleston. How are the miles out of Charleston? I live in Myrtle Beach so I'm about an hour from there. If all goes well with my phone interview on Monday I'll get the ball rolling on my hazmat and get my tank endorsement. My plan is to get that all done and sent away before I head to training so I should have it shortly after I complete training. Saw where some guys were not getting very many miles due to waiting on hazmat to come back. Thanks for the info and look forward to hopefully coming on board.
Rob

I am not with Schneider but pull tankers. Be fast with hazmat endorsement. It may take up to 45 days for response.

thanks, that was my plan. i figure if I can get into training Feb 1 or there after i can go ahead and get it sent off now so that would give me roughly 4-6 weeks. How do you like tankers vs van?

I have been pulling tankers from the start. Eleven years, first half in the oilfield, second in the chemical side. I love it. 99%of my loads are drop n hook. And the occasional live unload is done by receiver. Can't complain. I think you will like it. Haven't met anyone who tried tankers and regretted it.

Thank you Sir for the info, I have done alot of reading on it so far and I hope I get offered the spot. My previous OTR was with a refer.

X endorsement drivers are far superior to your run of the mill steering wheel holder. Of course you're all playing truck drivers until you're in the oilfield hauling hazmat. Where the concept of chaining up before is confusing and puking from a pocket of h2s is a rite of passage
rkd8582 Thanks this. -
If you're looking to do orientation in February then you will probably start on the sixth (not sure if the system varies by location or job description so take that with a grain of salt) . Either way good luck to you.

thank you, I would be interested in bulk but I really only have 3 options where I am. Tanker out of Charleston, a Georgia Pacific dedicated account out of Darlington and just straight OTR. Charleston is about an hour closer so that is my first choice and it seems to pay more too.

I applied to the tanker position as well but out of Jacksonville, FL. I'm still in the process of getting my CDL in school so I won't start until the middle of February.
Hope to see you out there and good luck!
