New Authority Risks With Brokers Turning You Down

I pulled both flats and vans when we started, I think one outfit turned me down. Other than that, once you get a good rep with a few brokers, it was pretty much smooth sailing from there.

I have a lady out of Texas that I have used for the last 4 years with great success. I run FB and she keeps me booked with good paying freight, some thru brokers and she has direct customers she gets loads thru that know she runs trucks. She has about 25 years in the industry, her husband is an O/O, so she started dispatching for him and then a friend of a friend, that's how I found out about her. She charges a flat 5% rate on linehaul, does all packets, invoicing, everything....hell I've even called her at 3am when I was broke down and she helped me find someone to give me a tow. I honestly don't like dealing with brokers or even some shippers as well, just a mosquito scratch that I have to itch every single time and they are backwards. I had one broker complain to me on the phone and told me we truckers take all of their money LOL as if they are doing the real work. They are nothing but pencil pushers. If your new you have to sign up and sign multiple papers and contracts for every single new broker you work with which is a nuisance. I'm in my 6th month of my authority and I personally black listed all those brokers that didnt work with me because i'm under 1 year active (i wont say i wont work them but they'll be my 3rd choice before i hit them up for an order LOL), I reciprocate the favor I just dont really care what the reason they have not to work with new authorities under a year. You look at Swift authority they been in business and how many years and how many accidents happen to them, same thing with JB Hunt and others... Not that I cannot find loads BUT if finding loads bothers you sometimes becuase you run into the phobic brokers, I would find yourself a friend and run under his/her authority legally while keeping your own authority active with bare minimum ins requirements. This will allow you to run top loads while milking the clock for your new authority until it matures. With a friends authority you wont have to pay any commissions ( best case scenario as is in my case.) If you dont have a friend, find a company to work under as an owner op pay them the commission for the orders all the while keeping your authority live its still worth it. Post 12 months you will be good to go.
