This is BS.
Remove the engine tag. You do not have a warranty.

 

The officer has to prove that the engine is post 2000, you do not have to prove that it is not.
It's all on the DOT's shoulder to prove their case.

 

I'm in same predicament.

I got a 16 ws glider with ddec4 in it.
Built date on engine says September 2015. Engine is manufactured in late 99. Reman serial # says 2015.........

Kinda pissed off .

Detroit is no help

 

Maybe that's the new regulation.

 

I'm almost thinking of getting a serial # off a 98 or 99 series 60 from salvage yard and getting the stickers reprinted at Detroit.. put them on my valve cover.

 

Silly question. Does the engine have a dpf, or any emission controls?
The guidance states Engine Model Year, not engine build date. You are likely NOT exempt for that reason.

And the same guidance states if the officer cannot determine engine model year, they are to refer it up the chain. Once that person comes out to look over the required paperwork, do you think they will be willing to overlook any other errors in the paperwork?
No, go get an older truck if you want to be exempt for that reason...

 

I pulled my new reman engine serial tag off my block today. Under the tag was the old serial # still stamped into the block...It's the same number but with out the 0 in front..
So if they reman a old engine they just put a 0 in front of the original serial #.
O6RE142873 is new reman number
6RE142873 was old original number.

I' going to try giving Detroit the old number and maybe they can give me the original build date.

 

Aren't the exemptions only good for the next two years?

 

Date based exemption has no time frame. It's a truck stop rumor.
Only exemption going away is the ag exemption, and the OOS for no ELD (which is voluntary by state anyway) and those are both about April 1st

All other exemptions are staying (until FMCSA decided to go through the whole rule making process again to remove them)
