Hey guys I was just curious to know how much experience you owner operators would expect someone to have while thinking about becoming one themselves. I know it’ll depend on the individual but if you had to give it a “no less than..” type of estimate. I’m nowhere near ready but always like thinking ahead and getting others opinions. Thank you.
P.s Also anything you’d advise someone to study a lot of to help them prep??

Maybe 10 years depends on the individual. Some only 2. Others 20 or maybe never

I went o/o after 14 months. But I was homeless, so had lower living expenses than most, and thus more room for error.
Jagsfan, Lepton1 and Justrucking2 Thank this. -

Read, read, read some more. Than read about all the office work to keep up on. Than read up on all the permits and insurance needed to be a true owner op. Than keep driving for the man to save up a bunch of money to buy your own truck.
Than save money for start up costs.
Than read some more on how to repair your own truck.
By this time you will realize you should have started at diesel tech school in the first place. Before all of this.Jclark87, Jagsfan, Bob Dobalina and 3 others Thank this. -
Depends... Takes ten drivers minimum to find a keeper. I ran into an O/O the other night, I would not let him babysit my cat. And I don't have a cat.
Steel Dragon, Jagsfan, Oxbow and 2 others Thank this. -
