Endorsements before vs after Obtaining CDL (California)?

Old Dominion Freight Lines hires new cdl grads, but their picky about which school you graduate from. Do 6 months somewhere and then apply with them.
Here's a couple that might hire you as soon as you get your cdl to pull doubles or singles in a day cab:

Interesting thread. I just enrolled in cdl school and I’m going for my permit on Wednesday. I was also told that sometimes it’s better to wait to get your endorsements until after you’ve gotten your CDL (for the same reasons that were mentioned to you).. I’m interested to read everyone’s opinion on this.

I would go ahead and get the TSA Background Check BEFORE you go get your CDL, so once you go take your CDL test, you have the TSA letter in hand and you can add Hazmat to your CDL and have TWIC if applicable, all at once. Keep in mind, you re going to be looking at close to $200 or more for CDL with Hazmat and background check

 

I just did my CDL driving test last week. I did all of the endorsements before taking the driving test which is recommended by most people. The only difference in the driving test was that I had to come to a complete stop before the level (rail road) crossing. That's it. There were no differences in the drive test other than that. Get your endorsements done first so they show up on your hard card. I also did my TWIC before I did my CDL written test, it was $125 for 5 years but you do get a break on the Hazmat fee as that was only $67 vs $85 if you don't already have TWIC. The approval came back in a week to and I didn't have to get re-finger printed for the Hazmat. Good luck.

 

Oh, and another thing... the fee for the CDL was only $73 with all endorsements including Hazmat, there is an extra fee on top of that that you go online to fill out the forms and pay directly to the Gov't. though. That's where you pay the extra $67 or $85 if you do not have TWIC.
