Hi everyone,
I'm new to trucking and noticed that there some bridges where there is no height sign posted before the bridge. Is it safe to assume that they are good to go for 53' dry van?
Thank you.

Yes. Many states have a statutory minimum bridge height [check front of trucker atlas] (or a maximum height before a permit is required) and as long as a bridge is at or higher than this, they may or may not post it's height. However, if it's less, then it must be posted.

I was told if there is no bridge or overpass height then it's 14.

Don't ever assume anything. No sign was posted here and this guy right in front of me tore the roof off his rental truck. He made sure to tell me he "assumed" he was good because no sign was posted. If no sign is posted particularly in bigger cities you slow down and creep up to it making sure you will be able to pass it.

They used to steal the signs in chicago near the rail yards, hoping and waiting for trucks to get stuck
So they could help themselves to the freight.
If not there they'd get you at a stop light.
