I have a RTO 16909ALL trans in my 379 Pete triaxle dump with a MBN C15 rated at 475 and 4.30 gears that has started to leak pretty bad. I'm not really happy with the rpm drop between gears either and want to install a different trans, preferably an 18spd for the added torque capacity once I turn the motor up and I shouldn't have to spin the motor to 1800 rpm to keep it from lugging down into the next gear and have my egts skyrocket. I run close to 80k when loaded and don't do a lot of off-road driving. My question is are they all the same length so it will be a direct bolt in or would I need to shorten the driveshaft? Any thing else I should consider? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Be same. I would go with a 18918 at least for torque and upgrade your clutch while you are at it. That 16909 will have a lower torque clutch behind it more than likely.

I have an 18 behind an MBN and the short rpm drops work super well. Just be aware that right now your lowest forward gear ratio is 23:1, which is a lot lower than the lowest on the 18 which is 14:1 (didn't bother with the decimals on these) . I don't know on the dimensions but I'm sure Maggard knows what he's talking about. He usually does. You have 2 gears lower than the 18's lowest. But then you're at 80,000 vs my 140,000 and I often have to lift that in soft yards in the spring, and have so far managed ok. But check the clutch too, like Maggard says.
