I always hated having to creep through Amish areas. Not a good idea to do even the speed limit when there might be a buggy out of sight over the next hill.

Saw the aftermath of one of those buggies pulling out in front of a truck years ago in OH . Splinters everywhere , bits of the driveline all over . No going to say any thing about the passengers .

Anyone else have to deal with CODs marked “certified funds only” thanks be to deadbeats that don’t know how to pay their bills?

I forgot who you work for. But my last LTL gig years ago I never had that happen to me.

You haven't lived until you've come over a rise on a snowy night in central pa--or around the curve on a long downgrade---and see those two red blinkin lights just ahead---good times lol
Years ago I used to peddle carpet out of Ga....seemed like EVERY stop was COD--and most marked CASH ONLY---lol

    MACK E-6 Thanks this.

I hate dealing with cash we gotta stop and get a money order there is a route that is crazy long you gotta run all day long to get it done and right in the middle of it is a Mexican restaurant that I'm pretty sure is bidding assets from the irs so they pay us in cash. Just takes more time outa of the day to go to the grocery store to get a money order

For the most part, I hate CODs. I have a few customers where I have to call ahead and they ask how much to put on the check before I show up. Perfectly fine.

But then you got these billing screwups that don't check the right boxes on a PREPAID delivery and you get a COD flag. Then it gets really awkward really fast when you surprise the consignee with a random shakedown.

Worst one I had was two years ago when a co-worker delivered a piece of freight and I had to go back to his stop to pick up a check. The conversation between me and my dispatcher went like this "hey, so Eric dropped off these barrels of whatever to this customer. The billing guys screwed up and it is actually a COD. I need you to go there and collect $652.24 or have them return their freight."

This ended up in a 20 minute shouting match between the customer, my dispatcher, and the shipper. And I got to be in the middle of it. About 9 phonecalls later to corporate, it turns out the shipment WAS prepaid after all.

It was an exceptional waste of time and people lost their composure over something stupid. The customer shook my hand and apologised about losing his crap on me. I wasn't offended... I probably would have done the same thing I told him.
