Help!! Snow expected in WY UT area.

I just got parked and this is the current report for the stretch of I-80 that I just ran... I had already headed out before the "No unnecessary travel" was posted. Most of that was between 30 and 40 mph... The variable limit was 45 mph... Visibility was about 100 feet at the worst times, some places had enough snow that the only way to tell where the road was at were the reflector posts and rumble strips, and several spots were VERY slick to say the least.

There were at least 4 trucks off in the ditch, one of which had blown my doors off about 90 mins before I drove past the scene of the crash... It was jack-knifed in the median. I covered 160 miles in 4 hours without incident, these driving conditions require patience.

Also if you see a tow truck on the road in Wyoming he probably has a CB, they run on channel 19 as well. These guys are great sources of info regarding wrecks and road blockages. One of these guys gave me a heads up about 2 wrecks tonight that were out ahead of me, he had just got off the phone with a State Trooper that called him to one. And he was very friendly and a curtious driver, letting other drivers know he was approaching and going to pass them so they could coordinate if need be.

 

Wyoming rarely plows at night. And Cheyenne becomes one big truck stop. If you stop in Cheyenne stop doubling parking on the road from the hook. There's a whole business park road to stop on. I'm tired of having to dodge you, your trucks, your dumb kids, or your dogs because a little snow fell

 

Blizzard warnings from Colby KS, East Central Nebraska towards Sioux falls SD today. Don't try to travel though there. Part of the blizzard warnings are winds high enough to put you off the road.

Arkansas expects storms tonight into early monday morning Little Rock - Shreveport and west/south towards Tyler Tx and OKC. Tornados are a possibility. If we have them it will be along 30 from Texakarna to Hotsprings area and also the Maumelle Valley in I-40 between Conway and Galloway. They generally travel SW to NE.

 

All things considered, seems Wyoming will avoid the worst of this storm, after all. No closures Sunday morning as the system moves off to the east and into the corn belt. But travel is treacherous across Elk Mountain area, regardless. With daylight, more traffic will hit 80 then all bets are off.

 

Just woke up and checked out the WY road report... This is what that website looks like when they post a closure... It is a great web site, quick, easy to undstand, and very up to date. I'm glad I came through that stretch last night before the daylight traffic with all the 4 wheelers came out.

That stretch is some one of the worst I-80 has to offer drivers, and the section of US 30 that goes around that stretch was closed last night and is either still closed or closed again this morning.

 

It's still not as bad as I feared it would be. The bulk was concentrated to the south and eastern portions of the state.

 

That stretch between Laramie and Sinclair may be the most treacherous in the country, particularly the middle of that stretch between Arlington and Elk Mountain. Used to almost always sees a truck blown over or jackknifed through there. Extreme winds, always black ice out there this time of year as well as blowing snow. Gets foggy quite often in the morning and visibility sucks. It does have quite a few hills and curves as well. Just always seemed like that stretch in particular was an adventure. Between Cheyenne and Happy Jack Road, around Buford is often pretty lousy too.

My goal going back east was to always get to Laramie and get through that stretch before something happened and they shut it down. I could always take 287 down to Colorado and just run 70 back to Missouri from there if I had to

 

Buford, Population of two? We talking about the correct town? Or is that the Colorado one?
