Going to Canada in an ungoverned truck

    I’m buying a new Volvo and plan to leave it ungoverned if possible. I have been limited to 65 miles an hour since I started driving two and a half years ago and I’m sick to death of going the same speed as the mega carriers. The company I will lease on with goes to Canada often. I have heard it’s a big expensive no no if you get caught driving in Canada in an ungoverned truck even if you never exceed the speed limit. Is this true? If so what, if any, solutions are available other than avoiding Canada?

    Will you be going to Quebec or Ontario often? Those are the only 2 provinces that have the speed limiter law.

    Not sure if the technology exists that will activate a governor within a set gps zone. I wish it did, I am in a similar situation, my company has Canadian freight for drivers who wish to cross the border, but they turn down our trucks from 70 to 65 (all the time) just because of the big fines for the Canadian speed limiter law. My elog switches to Canadian regulations when crossing the border, I wish my truck would switch back and forth...the truck itself is connected to cell service, so remote diagnostics can be done, why couldn't it be setup to adjust the speed...

    Just don't speed and they should have no reason to check.

    i go to canada and my truck is not governed but i don't go to Quebec or Ontario

    As stated, it is NOT a Canadian law. You can go 70 mph (110 kph) on some highways on the prairie and 75 mph (120 kph) on one highway in British Columbia.
    Only the Provinces of Ontario and Quebec have such a rule. And the stupid part is, they don’t have any roads at all where you can go over 62 mph (100 kph).
    I have a Detroit engine in my truck and have licensed software that I can use to set the speed limiter myself if I needed to.

    I have heard that they have ways of knowing. Maybe they pull you into their way stations and plug it into your ECM or something like that. I have no problem obeying the speed limit but I do not want to live in a governed truck. 65 sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!
