I've been to Ontario and Quebec around 7-8 times this year. I was weighed once at the scale in Lancaster but never bothered otherwise. Came in behind a truck at the London super coop EB late one night and they pulled him in for an inspection and left the green light on for me.

I figured my luck ran dry then so I stay out of sight whenever possible now and just drive a bit under the speed limit.

Ontario in recent years stopped checking the ecm, but if they caught you speeding over 105 they just automatically gave a speed limiter ticket.
With some of the spectacular crashes they have had lately, I hear they are getting fussy about it again.

$500 for 106 in a 100 zone? I think I’d plead not guilty on that

Those guys aren’t wrecking because their speed limiters aren’t set. They’re wrecking because they tailgate......which is caused by their speed limiter being set

Not at 106, but 115 and above. It's called "evidentiary presumption."

    17. The prescribed speed for the purposes of subsection 68.1 (9) of the Act is 115 kilometres per hour. O. Reg. 396/08, s. 1.

    Evidentiary presumption
    (9) In any proceeding under this section and in the absence of evidence to the contrary, proof that a commercial motor vehicle was driven on a highway at a speed equal to or greater than the speed prescribed for the purpose of this subsection is proof that the vehicle was not equipped with a speed-limiting system that was activated and functioning as required by subsection (1). 2008, c. 8, s. 1.

So guilty until proven innocent again.

    1. Still have to prove it was me they radared
    2. Speed limiters dont do squat downhill
    3. Still have to follow all the radar rules etc

I think we all agree that speed limiter laws are unconstitutional but Ontario and Quebec do what ever they want.
On also has street racing legislation and if anybody including US citizens are caught 50 kph 30 mph over the limit your vehicle is seized
Even if you beat the charge and lots do it still costs at least $2000.so you lose anyway

    How's that?

I never saw in our constitution an issue about speed limiters.

Canada, as great as a country it is, they make their own rules.

I know someone who was up outside of Montreal last fall that received a $500 fine after they plugged in during an inspection. It was governed at 70 mph

IN Ontario and Quebec, no they can't do anything if you are in the US
In conversations like this saying up in Canada is NOT correct.. each province is free to make their own rules. same as in the US states are allowed to

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
