Another note to anyone getting ready to go to Prime orientation as a student, if you live in Missouri, do yourself a favor and get your CDL permit before you get there. It will save you time and possibly stress.

Figured I could do another post as I'm laying here in my bunk. I came back to training after my vacation on Monday. We left Chattanooga, went to Atlanta and then down to Jacksonville, FL. We’ve spent the last few days in Florida with a load of beer from Anheuser Busch and we currently have some Tropicana orange juice heading to Texas. I feel very comfortable driving the truck now although I feel my lower gears are a little rough but trainer says I’m doing fine. I’ve spent most of my free time studying the pre trip. I should be back in MO early next week. I’m just looking ahead to the day I finally upgrade to my own rig. Out.

    Congrats Jimmy.
I'm starting today with my own truck. Going OTR. At times, I wished I had chosen the longer training path you have. I've rather been thrown in the deep end of the pool and required to swim. I'm doing ok. But yet, I have 7 years experience with Class B. I have obtained a good job. Great pay, compared to most. I guess that comes with the higher demands on me.

Thanks @WesternPlains. I’ve been following your thread, hauling flour right? Pretty interesting, hope all is well.

And.... it will be here sooner than you think.

Let's see if I can tag this right. It seems like you have been out here forever, but at the same time seems like you just started yesterday. How can it be both, right? LOL To this day, I have never forgotten what it was like back then.

Sorry man, just catching back up on you after a bit of an unusual hiatus for me.

Glad to hear things sound like they have been going well. Hope it has been everything you hoped for & a good introduction to a completely new life.

Congrats in order to you, too.

You're going to do just fine. Even with the longer training, there is no way around learning via "trial by fire". Maybe a little more "fire" on your end, but there is no replacement for being out on your own & having to think & resolve problems/situations on your own. It's called "experience" & the only way to gain that is...... time & trials.

There are so many things we run into over time, that even a year or more will not prepare you for. Guy I initially trained under (20+yrs driving) & still runs into new #### & situations. And, he was just thrown keys after 2 days with no prior experience......??!! Wanna talk about thrown in the deep end? LOL

You NEVER stop learning out here. Caution flag would be when you THINK you know it all out here. That will be the time that it will come back & bite you right in the ###.

Ask any old timer out here & they will tell you true...... we NEVER stop learning out here.

Mind your P's & Q's, think things out before hand & above all keep things safe at all times.

Gonna do fine, man. I can feel it.

Best to you on your new life.
