I once had to walk an old Pete the last 30 feet into the fuel island on the starter... Talk about embarrassing!... The #### fuel gauge was broke and I cut it a little too close in my figures as to how far I could go before fueling. Never tried to push it even close to that far again! Once bit, twice shy!

So I've managed to get upshifting pretty well . day 2

Learned today start in 1st going up a hill...instead of second

Still sometimes forget to flick her down when going into lower gear

I was more successful downshifting today

My favourite thing to do is stall in middle of intersections

My problem is I don't know how to get back into gear when I've lost it...and sometimes I loose too much speed so it makes I can't just go down one gear. Please help me with this

I like it when she roars/high revs

Ok, lets take a look at this in a few different situations.

Running on flat, light weight, your in 6th, want to grab 7, you gas up, let off and push her into neutral. Now the rpms fall off, and you miss 1k, now she's grindin. Easy fix, just lean VERY LIGHTLY into 7th, just enough to feel the teeth, and smoothy accelerate. When you get to the sweet spot, it will literally fall into gear.

    Understanding the above is key.

So now based on that, you can take it out of gear in 7th, and coast down to 25 mph, by now your well below target rpm.. so what? You know you want 5th for your road speed, so a little go pedal, and a slight lean into 5th, and poof, skip downshift.

Now, the dreaded missed shift at low speed! Omfg! Im screwed! I just missed 4th! So what? When your relaxed, you STAY OFF THE PEDAL long enough for your revs to fall back (biggest mistake is not doing that) then when the revs are back down to near 1k, a little pedal and a little push into 3rd, regain road speed and try again.

Now, up shifting uphill, this requires confidence. Your reving pretty high to build momentum, and when you ley off, your going directly from gear to gear, no pausing, no waiting. Your loss in road speed will kill ya if you dont get that next gear up right away. If you miss, gotta be quick and aim for the previous gear right now. And lean in light, give it pedal, and let it fall in, loss of gear uphill is the hardest thing to get past. Your in frantic mode as your slowing. Figure out a lower speed and gear your super comfortable grabbing, say 4th at 15 to 20mph or whatever, now every tme you slow yo stop, make a point of getting that gear, even if its only for a few seconds. After a short time you will naturally get confident knowing you can always get that gear..

    Will be trying this tomorrow

I am sick...its -16 celcius right now...and I've been outside strapping most of the time....I show up work anyway.....end up doing strapping in freezing cold instead of driving today ....punishment. Snowed 1 foot last night. Think the boss would let me stay in truck and practise driving while he does strapping and moffat deliveries. No.
