ok so I have a 1999 Kenworth W900L with a 3406E cat and just had it into the shop the compressor is a Bendix 550 builds up to 125 lbs but never sneezes it just stops pumping. Then it started now to where it leaks straight through purge valve took it to shop they changed governor and purge valve and main line from compressor to air dryer. Told me it was fixed drove 100 miles pulled over same thing blowing straight out of purge valve. I have checked sendor lines on governor and blown them out nothing.

Sounds like what I had going on with a 2003 Pete, the boss ended up rebuilding the air dryer

Found out if I lower my govenor on compressor I can get it to purge but very lightly not very loud. Also it seems if I “tickle” the govenor by taking cap off and twisting little bit with but still locked it will pop of almost like normal. Could it just be I managed to get faulty govenor? How long should a 550 compressor take to build from zero to 120 or purge pressure at an idle?

Well first I'd check the dessicant cartridge, if it's blowing oil it's probably saturated, especially if it's never been changed. Also an indication the compressor is getting tired.

    Oxbow and Bubbahead Thank this.
