does anyone know the maximum number of points you can have on your license to get on at SAIA?

Do they go back 3, 5, 7 or 10 years on your MVR?

    thanks

saia goes back 3 years in my state, but this may vary based on the state's record-keeping policy. Points goes on a case by case basis. I know these answers are vague, but it wouldn't hurt the fill out the online application

They're advertising alot on the radio in Denver so they might be a lil more relaxed in there hiring at the moment

They're advertising everywhere. I've heard them on the radio in Columbus and seen them on two billboards in just a few miles on 75 South in Cincinnati. In Cincy, the regular billboard shows a $2,500 sign-on bonus while the electronic one shows a $5,000 bonus. Both advertising for linehaul starting at .61/mi with one year experience.

With all that said, just because they're desperate doesn't necessarily mean they're any less selective. That might be one of the reasons they are that desperate (though we all know it's not the main reason).

Saw that billboard Saturday when I dropped off my OL at the airport. It caught my eye, too, but there's other outfits I'd rather haul for if I was going to commute to Cinci. And Saia didn't USED TO have to offer a signing bonus....doesn't pass the sniff test.

When I went in for my interview last week it was stated they go back 3 years. They're offering a 3000 sign on bonus in Waco/Hewitt. I was pretty stoked about the position until I read about the hoards of guys that are leaving, due to the ridiculous micromanagement that is occurring. It turned me off pretty quick unfortunately.

The fact that they're advertising literally EVERYWHERE is usually not a great sign. I've got a couple of buddies that work at different LTL companies in the area, and they've all gotten drivers that have come over recently from SAIA, and they all have the same complaints. Ridiculous micromanagement, and a crazy over the top driver facing cam system. It's unfortunate, as I thought it was finally my big break into the LTL game, but all of the crap I'm reading about from drivers all over, just seems like the kind of stuff I want NO part of. The pay and sign on bonus would of been nice, but I truly don't know that I would of made it that far. I'm a safe driver etc, but I don't want to feel like I've got a loaded gun pointed at me all day (DFC) waiting to go off at any moment that I'm not EXACTLY 4 seconds or more behind a vehicle in front of me, or if I have the radio too loud, or if my phone rings, or if I take one hand off the wheel etc. Just flat doesn't sound like fun, AT ALL. All of which have been coach-able situations from drivers all over.

Here's my tepid lukewarm defense of saia: not all terminals suck. Each terminal has it's own operating style, each tm is handling the driver cam videos differently. Some tm' s will write up everybody for everything, and some will show you a following distance once a month just to keep you on your toes.

As far as us being short drivers, were hiring linehaul drivers just about everywhere because we opened 6~7 new terminals in the northeast and our system drivers and new bid runs in that direction... now if a saia terminal is always hiring city drivers, that is how you know it's bad.

I hear you and you are correct, all TM's are different. I'm not TOO sure on how strict the TM is at the Hewitt/Waco terminal, but my general impression was that he was a decent guy. I actually got a much better vibe from the Saia terminal than I did at Estes, hands down. However, regardless of how "cool" he seemed, I assume he can only be so "laxed" when the company as a whole is so hell bent on micromanagement. I will say, out of the last year I've been browsing indeed in my area, as I knew eventually my previous boss would sell his trucks at some point, and I can say 9 out of the last 12 months the Hewitt/Waco terminal has been looking for city drivers. So who knows? I ultimately passed it up as I didn't have the desire, or patience, to deal with even the possibility of putting up with any of the over zealous micromanagement tactics. Could it have been a bad choice as I obviously need to work, and it could of been a good oppourtunity for me? Yep. But could it have saved me a lot of headache in the long run? You bet. You've got to make decisions and stand by em.

Everything you said is true. My buddy runs linehaul there. But he can deal with it. He makes a lot of money there cause he’s on of those worker types. He works 6 days on pace for 100k+
But my area has a lot of long runs. They are desperate for experienced Linehaul drivers here they’ll start you topped out at .65cpm. I’d be scared to buy a nice expensive house and in one moment lose your job over something stupid like using Bluetooth or reaching for a drink and nearly miss a accident. Plus the head honcho of Saia won’t change. He’s totally on board with all these policies, cams he doesn’t give crap about the driver. Plus the safety numbers and profit numbers came out and they were good. So there will be no change on the policies cause that all these guys care about is the numbers.
