Meh, the title of the article is kind of misleading. What they are basically saying is that with self-driving trucks more jobs will be "final mile" type driving. And that overall more freight will be moving so there'll be more jobs period. But those jobs won't be the result of self-driving trucks but more freight volume overall. Quite disingenuous, unless I misread the article.

To add, I can't think of a single time that a technological advancement related to industry resulted for more jobs outside of those who researched, manufactured or maintained that technology. Maybe a small uptick in distribution jobs as more product was produced, but the biggest killer of jobs has, historically, been labor automation.

Self-driving trucks simply increasing the amount of driving jobs is kind of questionable.

It would seem to me that, if you consistently drive safely and legally, stay on top of inspections and maintenance, and do the work without causing a lot of problems, you should at least be able to position yourself either to babysit the robot trucks or to take over the jobs that the "steering wheel holders" would inevitably get pushed of if the powers-that-be decide to start raising the standards.
