So will diesel still be an option in 20 years or will electric take over completely?

In 20 years...IMO...electric will take over completely.

And electric will be generated at a household level via natural gas (we all already have it) and home generators. Why should we insert 3rd party 1st energy or whoever!? This is LONG overdue!

Why continue with massive amounts of blood sweat tears and trucks moving all of the fly-ash and coal everywhere? And why even mine for real gold anymore? Bitcoin is a virtual mine (one of many now) that can simulate the exact same thing which is nothing more that universal faith in a thing that is rare. Crypto coins are virtual gold mines that only require electricity and a program to mine! I don't know when but huge changes are a comin! IMO.

For a large fleet those tesla purchases are great for tax purposes. The purchase decision had nothing to do with the cost effectiveness or viability of the actual truck. Spend x dollars on green technology and get x dollars times 2 Inn reduced tax liability.

So in essence the whole point these companies are buying Tesla is due to tax write offs?

How are they getting twice the reduction of tax liability from putting down payments on the trucks? I doubt they'll get the EV tax credit, since it applies when the vehicle is delivered, and Tesla will have hit their limit on how many can be claimed by that time. Even people who preordered the model 3 might not be able to get the $7,500 rebate.

That's what I was wondering. I don't even think the tax credit applies to commercial vehicles.

I personally think that the electric trucks that have come out are ugly as sin. Maybe I'm resistant to change? I have a hard time moving away from a Big Cam Cummins or a 3406 series Cat, much less going all the way to a battery powered truck.

    My questions are:
How much do the batteries weigh when compared to a diesel engine block?
How long do the batteries last before they need to be replaced?
How much do new batteries cost?

I don't know the answer to these, but I assume that any savings someone has with these trucks are greatly offset by the cost of maintenance.

I think that the utopian dreams of people who are not involved in the industry are clouding their judgement of what the industry needs or what would be practical.
