Poly trucking is strange. They now pay .54/mile, all miles, but their trucks ???!!

They just started getting petes but still have too many internationals.

Poly is good to work for, they don’t pester you or bother you, except when it comes to truck repairs.

The trucks are beyond warranty, yet they still send them to international dealers for repairs, even if its something simple. there can be a 3 or 4 day wait time, except at the southwest international near our H.Q. in grand prairie, tx which can have a 2 or 3 week wait time.

Many drivers know enough to try and not report problems until they’re on the road, that way they get it srviced faster.

If you get a loner truck, even if it has just come out of the shop, chances are, it’ll break down on you. A few months ago, one driver went through 6 loner trucks in under a week, some of them needing tows back to the yard.

It seems like they simply don’t repair the trucks.

Many drivers report getting their trucks back w/o being repaired. One driver even stated he marked the part they were going to replace, when he got it back a few weeks later, they said they changed the part, but he crawled under the truck and they didn’t replace the part at all.

When you bring your truck in for b service, the mechanics write up all sorts of b.s. problems that don’t really exist, just so they can claim they did work, they really didn’t do.

I asked 1 supervisor (not one of the 3 bosses with offices) if the mechanics get commissions and he said no, but laughed and said, let’s just say our mechanics have ways of finding things, other mechanics can’t.

It sounded to me that he was agreeing that our mechanics are making up phoney work orders, but why, if they get no commission?

Do they feel under paid or under appreciated, so they purposely clog productivity by keeping trucks off the road? Are they resentful of the drivers so they kill our pay by keeping trucks off the road?

There is definitely something wrong here. Do they get kickbacks from southwest international?

Does the president of poly trucking realize there’s a problem? Who the hell is the president anyway?

Is He in on it, or is he blind as a bat, or is he unqualified to fix the problem. Does parent company poly-america know of the problem?

I was even threatened with termination for not taking a loner, ( i had been off for more than 7 days waiting for truck to get fixed) so to avoid termination, I took one for a short trip to san antonio and back, nothing but trouble with that loner.

Once i got my truck back from b service and ....

    Couldn’t get off the property.

Guards said truck needed annual inspection. Can’t be true, just did a b service.

Turns out, the guards can see when annual due but mechanics couldn’t.

If i recall correctly, millis would do the annual everytime they did the b service, just so it didn’t get overlooked. I suggested poly do it that way too. NOPE we can’t

    WTF ??

Mechanics are usually paid flat rate, ie one particular job pays them so much wether they do it in 5mins or 5hrs. Sounds like they're making good pay checks.

The mechanics/service guys are brand new. They are doing services out of a book basically. Step one says if you see oil there's a leak.... That kind of crap is what they do. I've been here for 3 years and the shop hasn't got worse and to me hasn't gotten better.

Obviously I agree with the truck issues. Heck I'm in a new Pete with 90k+ miles and got towed last night. Waiting 5 hours in 25 degree weather and no heat. Now playing the waiting game at a hotel. But as long as I make good money even with a few truck problems a year I will stay.

On the bright side in my 3 years the pay has increased 6 cpm, they have started getting new trucks and adding new trailers, fixed shipping, added breakdown and layover pay. Maybe the international/ shop problems will be looked at soon but don't hold your breath lol.

Don't get me started...there isn't enough popcorn available for everyone for that. :)

The Ross family is the owner and senior management of the whole corporation. Mrs. Ross, the wife of the original person who built the company, and their sons run the place. The father, who started and built the corporation, passed away years ago. Yes, they know there are issues, no, they don't care. The 'rumor' was, when I was there, that the only reason the trucking division is still there is because Mama Ross won't let Jr. dismantle it. The trucking division was Mr. Ross' baby, and she insists it remain a part of the company. It was said that once she passes, and the kids run the whole shebang, the trucking division will fade away and shipments will be done solely by outside carriers. Now, this was from fellow drivers, but drivers that had been with the company for a very long time.

The equipment and shop have been an issue ever since the Internationals were brought in. ICE needs to make a surprise visit and clean house, there were many times I went in the shop and tried to get a quick repair on a loaded trailer and found more than one mechanic that spoke NO english...a grown man, who doesn't know any english...here legally? I think not.

I was told more than once, when your truck comes out of the shop, go over it with a fine tooth comb. Many times it would come out with more things wrong with it than it went in with because in the process of repairing one thing, several other things got broke. Maybe it was job security, maybe incompetence, maybe both. But bottom line, the equipment is probably the biggest cause of driver turnover...I know it was for me.

The security only has that magic box on their desk, and are only following orders. When they pull up your truck number, and the magic box says the truck can't leave...it doesn't leave. Even if it is just to do a Walmart or food run and not a load, it won't be allowed to leave unless the shop boss gives the o.k.

I've been in the trade a decade now and typically only automotive guys are paid flat rate. I've never heard of a heavy truck/heavy equipment tech working for flat rate. Not saying it can't happen but its extremely rare in my experience.

Perhaps in the private sector, usually company shops pay hourly...and the shops of the companies I have worked for, not a generous hourly rate either.
