The WORST Shippers and Receivers - Truckers WILL NOT Buy Their Products!

That was me... and that was 18 years ago give or take. I don't do much grocery anymore, and for good reason—99 percent of grocery warehouses/retailers are corrupt pieces of fecal matter that aren't worth my time. It hasn't changed much in 18 years.

 

Roundy's in Oconowoc, WI

17 Pallet load, 17k. 130 to U/L B/D. 7.5 hrs in the dock

 

Yeah target in Oconomowoc WI sucks to. Wont let you on the premises more than a halfhour early. Closest truckstop is 20 miles away. Once in you have to disconnect your tractor and either leave the property or go sit in the "drivers lounge" which has a table and some vending machines. Talk about lame, atleast let me sit in my truck so I can smoke or listen to the radio or something. Things like that irritate me.

 

I have a Monday AM delivery # Food Lion in Dunn, NC. I know I should probably pack a lunch (supper...midnight snack...), but how early will they let me on the premises (I'll be getting to Dunn sometime Sunday afternoon)?

 

Oh crap, I was there a few weeks ago and if I remember right, you can get in I think at 6:30am EST for the dry side. Perishables is 5:30am EST. There is a little truck stop on the other side of the interstate to park at if you get there early enough.

Since I can't remember the exact time, you can always roll up to the gate and ask the guard on duty. They'll tell you and then tell ya to go away lol

Also, you shouldn't be there for more than 2 hours depending on what kind of load you're bringing in.

 

And on topic, Bruno's aka C&S Wholesale in Birmingham, AL. That place can burn down for all I care. First time I went there it was still Bruno's. I pulled off 40k worth of product with a manual pallet jack...blame it on temporary loss of sanity. I get paid to unload my trailer and do the breakdown so I don't mind breaking down product.
After I dragged their product off my trailer I asked the receiver if he could get someone to take off the top pallets so I could take a layer off the bottom pallets. He just rubs his thumb and fingers together to indicate it would cost me money for that to happen.
I told him I wasn't paying a bribe as that's pretty much what it was. I sat down and just waited and waited. An hour later a supervisor comes over and asks why I'm still there. I explain the situation and once he hears about the receiver wanting money he said that isn't right and got three forklift drivers to come over, set the top pallets down and I did my breakdown and was gone within 30 minutes.
Second time I go there it was after C&S bought the place and I figure most C&S warehouses aren't too bad so it has to be better. Wrong!
I only had maybe 5 or 6 pallets. I get them all off except for one of them which is heavy and the pallet is messed up and dragging in the center making it hard to move around using their crap pallet jack. I manage to get it off my trailer and onto their dock plate. Same a-hole of a receiver is there and tells me I have to either hire a lumper or pay him a few bucks to get it off the dock plate. Say what? Pay to get your junk off your dock plate. I don't think so!
I started asking for his supervisor and that gets him motivated to get the pallet off the dock plate rather quickly and I get sent on my way.

I was nice, polite and had a good attitude and this receiver was such a jerk from the get-go. I'll never figure out why some receivers are like that. I can see if I was being rude from the beginning but ####, just to be a jerk for no reason. On the upside of things, it was nice to see the whse supervisor come and take my side on things for once.
Regardless of all that, I've put that place on my black list of places I won't go to anymore.

 

It`s dry freight...I just wanted to avoid a replay of what happened at HEB the time I had the gall to show up 20 minutes early for an appointment :/

Can't believe that no one has mentioned King Soopers in Aurora, Co. Pulled in an hr early for my 1000 appt. Get a dock # 1230. Finally unloaded about 1430 and have bills in hand and pulling out at 1600.
Cloverleaf in Sioux City, IA. 11.5 hrs. In their defense (I think) they blamed it on Tyson and somepolicy they had. Last load from Tyson showed up at their warehouse at 1500. All this wait to pull this load a whole stinking 7 miles so that it could be given to another driver. God how I love this job.

 

Do you still have this job? I can't do the extended free dock times. I quit a job I really liked because of a Wal-Mart DC.
I think I make a great arguement for working by the hour. I actually get paid from the house and back, to fuel, PTI, do paper work, load, and unload. There is no such thing as deadhead or back haul.
I love the job but have concerns with the drop in the price of oil. I would rather have the cheaper fuel prices though.

 

I remember King Soopers quite well, espcially the one in Aurora, CO., had a 0300 am appointment, got there at 0630 am due to being tired and could not see straight to drive any further. Anyway, got unloaded around 1400 pm.
