Hey everyone, I am writing to find out what should I bring with me to CDL school and training. I'm getting ready to head out to Utah on Monday. I'll be flying out there so I'd like to be able to have 1 carry on and 1 checked baggage but as it stands now I think I may have 2 checked bags as my darn sleeping bag takes up space. Here's what I have so far:
Winter Clothes:
3 Thermal Underwear
1 Thermal Undershirt
1 Scarf
1 Snow hat
1 Snow Gloves
5 Thermal Socks
3 Jeans
4 Long Sleeve Shirts
1 Winter Jacket
1 Winter/Snow Pants
1 Steel Toe CAT work boots
1 20-40 Degrees F Sleeping Bag
Summer Clothes:
2 Shorts
4 Short Sleeve Shirts
1 Tennis Shoes
4 Regular Socks
Toiletries: (in a toiletry bag)
1 Toothbrush
1 Toothpaste
1 Tongue Scraper
1 Mouth Wash
1 Floss
1 Razor
1 Shaving Cream
1 Body Wash
1 Shampoo
1 Deodorant
Medical:
1 Ibuprofen
1 Mylanta
1 Mini first aid/bandage kit
I know it's not complete yet but that's what I have so far. Creating a shopping list of things to go get today/tomorrow so feel free to help add to my list. I'm not sure about the sleeping bag/pillow as I was thinking of finidng a walmart out there so I could get those 2 items if I can't fit them in my checked bag. I know I need to get some work gloves as well so if anyone has any suggestions for those (brands/style) let me know. I'm mainly packing for winter weather so I'm not packing too much summer clothes.

Looks good... You forgot the case of Scotch.
And I would get the sleeping bag out there, and the pillows. Just easier that way. Fred Myers is a good place for the sleeping bag and pillow. Like a Walmart, but better quality stuff.RedRover Thanks this. -
Work gloves, I like the rancher style leather gloves, like these... Rough Rider® Gloves, Elastic Back #25001PR at Galeton
In the winter I would wear theses same gloves in ND, oil field, and used this style of glove liner, they did the job. String Knit Gloves - Men's S-7891M - Uline
Not that you have to go to this extreme with the liners... The rancher gloves are what I would think most guys wear when drop and hooking trailers and or fueling. About the only time I wear gloves out here.tscottme Thanks this. -

2 bags only...especially if you’re doing the greydog, going to school, then orientation and straight to a trainer. GIT ER DONE AND OVER WIT ASAP.
Bag 1. Roll your denims and tees and pack em tight. Toothbrush toothpaste in a ziplock, important papers in a ziplock, electronics everything stuffed in bag.
Bag 2. Roll you heavy coat, heavy gloves, heavy whatever, and your pillow in your sleeping bag. Check this bag, but always carry bag 1. Do not put anything you need for anything in this bag until you get into the trainers truck. Leave this bag in the motel, but keep bag one close to you because it has all of your important stuff in it.
You. Wear your boots. Work jeans shirt, short and long, and a hoodie. If you layer up, you won’t need that heavy coat. Toboggan. Keep your gloves on you. All ID, medical info, and enough cash to float you for a couple months and or to get your arse back to the house if things go south. And carry your sharpest, best knife.
And before you start, PRACTICE LISTENING. If someone tells you their name once and you cannot remember the name, you are not a good listener. Everyone you deal with, from any recruiters to any bus drivers, to any instructors, to any trainer will tell you everything you need to know. Too many times, rookies come here are post, “My instructor screams at me!!!!”
What did he say, rookie?
“He was screaming! I shut down when he started screaming!”
If you were listening, you could tell me what he said.
if you were hearing, all you can tell me is that he was screaming. Look around in class. When the instructor has to continue to repeat himself, and no one really gets to do as much as was planned because so much time is wasted repeating simple instructions...
Anyways, if you want the edge over the rest of the class, train yourself to listen.
Luck in battle.RedRover and Steel Dragon Thank this. -
No self respecting trainer will take you seriously. Unless you bring your teddy bear. I just disturbed mine. She was under the covers in my truck.

Money, take enough to feed your self for several weeks, and a credit card to get you back home from anywhere USA
