Company my dads leased to is looking to hire another company driver. Going in Tuesday to talk to the owner. Small outfit about 6-8 company drivers and 20 or so O/O mostly flats, few steps and low boys and 15 or so vans.

I like the oilfield $$$ but its no life working 80-100 hours a week dragging my Richard threw the dirt. Lately I feel more like a baby sitter than anything. Sitting on site most of the day unloading other peoples trucks since the boss hires anyone with a pulse. Pneumatics aren't that complicated, but after a big screw up and 20k of cement on the ground instead of the silo and one very angry company man,,,, only 4 of us were allowed to unload. 30$ hour soon as we get on site least it made it worth being on site all day.

Anyways ill have benefits now and a Monday-Fri schedule all day cab work. Pretty much as close to bankers hours as you can get. I don't have much open deck experience but I do have some common sense and my dad to teach me the ropes. Taking a pay cut but its worth it to me if it means being home every night and not being on call 24-7 with no set schedule at all. I'll post some pics of my loads so you guys can help learn me.

You'll be fine. Strapping and chaining isn't that bad you've just got to drive like the load is just sitting on the trailer not tied down and you'll be fine.

I'm bored right now so ill tell you guys how a driver got half a bulk trailer of cement on the ground. Its a long story

My company hired a guy fresh out of the slammer from Alabamer. Got his cld with some 1099 Russian outfit in the Carolinas that drove autos, was maybe there a month at best. I'm a laid back easy going guy so boss would usually throw new guys with me. Will call the new guy Forrest.

Never driving a standard he picked up on the 8ll pretty quickly. Taught him how to float, he was smoother that way than dbl clutching. One thing I noticed right off bat was every time he braked he would pull the trolly too, hard all the way down. Said he was trained that way??? Other than that he seemed good, good lane control on those skinny Ohio back roads, good spacial awareness. Thought to myself maybe this is the 1 out of 10 drivers that's not gon quit after 3 days. I wish he had.

Fast forward a week after getting back out to Ohio from taking some much needed R&R i ask my uncle how he's doing and just shakes his head. "Dude he's impossible to teach, he drives good but forget about him being able to unload." In short yeah he was right but I still was bound and determined to teach him. I should of known better when he was more worried about having the right fittings to hook up than the actual unloading process. No cam locks for us heavy iron fittings you thread on. If you have a wing to wing hose you need a single wing fitting to hook to the silo most time you need a 90 elbow and a 90 to hook dust sock to. Very rarely can you get away w/o using them. Simple stuff. He couldn't grasp that the more you open the line pressure the less product you are moving. Talked til I was blue in the face.

Then thought maybe if he learns it himself he'll get it what's the worst he can do plug up, he's already done that a few times. Told him listen I'm going back to my truck hit me up on the Xbox if your not sure. I learned on my own maybe you'll get it better that way. Took him a while but he got it. Got back to yard with Forrest and my uncle. Bulk plant says one more load needs to go out. Forrest says he can do it.

A silo holds 2 loads. Must have told him that a dozen times. And for redundancy the back of the trailer has a tag on it saying the blend, what well, how many sacks of cement and the silo #. Same with bol. On top of that you had to text operations in tx before leaving the yard and before unloading. Say it says silo 1 on bol. When you get to location its gon be a 5 digit # on the silo. You text them and get 5 digit # and confirm its empty or if it has 1 load in it your tag matches. You put the tag from the trailer on the silo. You have to try to mess up. Well he did.

None of us were there but apparently he hooked into the wrong silo after we told him what one he was going in. He had about 400 sacks at best a silo is good for 1100. He got maybe maybe 200 sacks in before it started filling up the dust sock. If that happened to most ppl they would stop and say we got a problem here. Not Forrest he grabs another sock after spilling cement everywhere trying to move the ripped sock looking like a 6th long f2f thick schlong. Starts filling up the 2nd one until one of the rig hands goes and gets the company man. By then I think he knew something wasn't right. Company man says I've never seen anything like this before. Gets on the phone with Schlumberger and that's when it hit the fan. We run 3rd party for slb not directly for them. His stunt almost got us thrown off all Nomac locations (most of our work) and we had to go clean it up and get cement off the ground. Schlumberger had to get rid of the cement in the silo and bring back 3 more loads.

On his way out he took out a sign and few mail boxes sent him for test and popped hot for meth. He was fired already that was just the icing on top. Figured someone might ask me how that happened so there ya go

Yeah ill be fine just gonna take my time and not rush. No tarp loads here to mess with at least. Lot of decking and trusses, jersey barriers, plastic pipe of all sizes are the bulk of the work. 80% 1 way freight come home empty

Yep, I’d quit too. It’s only a matter of time until the next moron screws up.

My company sent me in to a new customer. Stretch loads. Loads weren’t heavy, but they were big. Stupid money. But stretch RGN loads are some of the most difficult loads to move. Was usually grossing 90k, 90ft long, and 12’6 wide and 14 tall. Common sense would tell you that you don’t pre trip a stretch trailer the same way you do a normal trailer, right? I guess I’m the only person that will pre trip a stretch trailer by stretching it out. You don’t want to get to a shipper and realize that the thing won’t stretch, or has some fitting broken on the side rail.

So, I’m running this customer’s freight. Making stupid money. Suddenly, they start trying to intergrate the boneheads into the mix. Can’t get the trailers stretched, ripping air lines, getting high centered and of course, getting off route with a big load, accidents with cars because of the gigantic turns that you have to make. Customer cuts us of course. Oh, well...I knew it would happen.when the money is there, I grab as much of it as I can, and as soon as I see the boneheads, I know the money train has reached the end of the tracks.

The very first lie the gubermint tells us is that ‘all are equal’. If all are equal how can anyone be successful?

Union O/O? Back in the 90s-early 2000s this place was mostly union O/O steel haulers out of the 282. Hauling steel out of Canron (ocean steel now) in Binghamton ny. Back when if you weren't a teamster you didn't cross the gw with a load I beams. Good ole mob days. When my dad left in 02 the 282 was under gov trusteeship it was so corrupt

    Nealon transportation is the company
