If i get a cdl license from IL is it going to be valid for work in Texas or how long is the process? Is it better to attend cdl classes in Texas instead to work in the oil industry?
Chicago cdl going to be valid in Texas?

Buy a white Volvo ,you'll be fine and lots of people will call you sir
But seriously I think you have to change it after 30 days if you change residency onlytscottme Thanks this. -
Can you imagine the problems that arise when the company asks where you from. Chicago. NOPE. NEXT!
Teasing aside, the CDL is federal. You are good in all 50 states and some countries provided there is nothing else that interferes with your ability to go around.
The previous poster has it right, should you establish residency etc somewhere you are required to change your CDL to that new state. When I showed up in Arkansas it only took 15 minutes and two written tests plus a vision to change everything over. Otherwise I ran all over on the MD license. -
Maybe @Zaros can help with your question.

Texas_hwy_287, dngrous_dime, Zaros and 2 others Thank this. -
Illinois CDLs need to be illegal nationwide, the motoring public would be much safer, and so would our rates.
As far as yours, each state is different on their work and residency requirements regarding driver licenses, CDL or not. I worked in ND and MT in the oil field for near four years, I never changed mine, and I bought a car in Minnesota and plated it in Montana. Never had an issue even though the residency laws stated different. I am a Michigan resident, and kept myself registered there. -
Ok here is the answer you are looking for.
But first I have to tell you that you are leaving out a lot of needed info.
The cdl is uniformed across the country, it is the same license for all.
The state may have other requirements but overall yes you can have your cdl issued in Illinois.
But Texas is backwards and ignores residency of the license holder.
I was going to work in Texas a bunch of years back but every company I applied to and was accepted said I have to change my license to Texas even though my residency is only Michigan not Texas but they didn't care, so I stayed here. -
i cannot fully remember right now, but i thought for sure some states made you go thru that due to the former state's shannigans for obtaining a CDL
can anyone elaborate more..?? wasn't at one time a FL CDL considered not legal? as well as an IL..???
thanks in advance. -
