You do realize that your about to give up a 20 year
High paying steady job for a temporary water hauling
    Gig.
It's the oilfield,it's all temporary, and nobody's gonna
Tell you when your no longer needed until they hand you
    The pink slip.

One driver screw up bad enough or some rag tag
Outfit undercut your company and your out of work.
Could be 2 months from now. You'll never know.

Your gonna make less money with no job security.
I lived in east Texas about 15 years now.
Got a whole lot of trucker friends and me who used
    To chase that oilfield money.

None of us will even consider it anymore.
All we did was lose out in the long run.
Work, no work, work, no work, up yours im
Out of here. Any paycheck could be your last one.

    20 bucks an hour, 40 hours a week, that's 800
A week gross. There is absolutely no gaurntee of
    Overtime.
20 years doing linehaul, your gonna take a huge pay cut.

Forget the benefits and insurance they offer, your gonna
Be laid off before you can use it.
    This is beyond stupid.
If you were putting around at 30cpm then I'd say
    Go for it.

Are you gonna live in a man camp. There disgusting.
When the work slows down where you are at.
(And it will). Are will willing to travel 200 miles away
Where they have plenty of work.

The smartest people I seen that worked in the oilfield
Had big pick up trucks, and a fifth wheel RV.
They stayed in rv parks right down the road from
The yard and most of them got the company to
    Pay for it.

The real oilfield lifers had there wife and kids with them.
They followed the money. Able to pick up and go at
    The drop of a dime.

If you want to gamble go to the casino. At least you'll
Still have a linehaul job after you blow all your money.
If you work in the oilfield and blow all your money,
You might get laid off the next day. Lol.

The BS in Hauling water is all the different things they have to do. Like transferring water from tank to tank. Bringing fresh loads of water. Cleaning out unload stations and Frac tanks. Then you have to deal with the Frac operators. And some of those flow hands are real dicks and always yelling. When I hauled oil for Sunoco we were treated like gods. Everybody wants to get paid for their oil. You test the oil, load the loyal ,then transport it to an offload site. Easy peazy... And you don't have to deal with anyone.

It isn't always that bad. I started out hauling water to get to crude hauling, with a stint hauling fuel in the middle. I think water hauling is a good place to start in the oilfield, or a place to end your driving career when you are thinking about just making some good money before hanging up the hat. But it isn't reliable enough, or cushy enough, to make it a career move.

Mostly everyone I know that got out of the patch vowed to never go back. Me and my dad included. It would have to be a ridiculous figure like 35$ plus a hr with ot. I was #### near 30-32 if I figured it out hourly and I bailed.

If you were young and single it would be a whole different game but your not. One thing I've learned about this industry is you have to be MOBILE ready to pick up and move on the drop of a dime. 6-12 months she could go tits up again and then bam.....I wish I kept that nice clean LTL gig. You can always probably go back but welcome to the extra board or the p&d run nobody wants.

Just telling you like it is dude. If you were some otr mega company driver id tell ya have at it but your not.

    Always upgrade never downgrade

That's the point. It's not reliable.
There is no career hauling anything in the oilfield
Unless your willing to move at anytime.
And even then there might not be anything to move too.

Give up a 20 year linehaul job to drive a water truck
    In the oilfield is insane.
And anybody who tells him otherwise is just as insane
As he is, if he does it.

I hope he checks with his wife first,
See if she approves of the 30,000 a year pay cut
And stress of being laid off at anytime.

This is the absolute truth. I used to haul water and now have an LTL linehaul gig. No way would I ever go back to the oilfield.

Linehaul can be boring but it has never sucked as bad as cleaning up an oil spill and I’ve never had to worry about being poisoned by h2s gas hauling LTL freight.
