Local fuel hauling jobs. Give it a try!!

Are their many Fuel hauling jobs that pay 70K a year? In my area i have the following companies hiring:
Love`s ( Gemni)
Kenan
M L Energy (MAPCO)
Spirit Express
Lewis and Raulerson

 

Man it sounds like 70K is about average if you run your but off. Especially in the summer when things pick up, at least that's what the guys are telling me where I work. The one guy said he almost hit 80K doing tankwagon with his bonuses and stuff. All I can say being a newbie is "Im making money now" Give it a try you'll be glad you did!!! And pry wonder why you did'nt do it sooner.

 

I`m a shuttle driver @ a food service company making 61k last year, if i make a change in career`s i want to make it worth my time.

 

I would check around before I made a move. 61 is pretty good to for being home everyday. At our transport the work is not hard just moving a few hoses every fee hours and sticking some tanks. I’d compare your current benefits and pay and go from there. Best of luck!!!

 

I should hit $70k this year easily, working 5 12hr shifts, but I'm working a 6th day every other week, hoping to be near $80k. Planning some home improvements this summer,

The bigger the name on the door the less you have to do. Just about all of the majors have gotten out of the fuel hauling bussess. If the common carrier wants to look that bad, compies, when hire them to do the work. I went out on LTD back in 2000 and stayed with them until 2017. In 2018 I will finally retire and all that time that my records without showing. I will match any company with beneafit, pay, vaction, sick pay, and days off.

 

Do you recommend any company hiring O/O out of California? I’m interested in hauling fuel or other hazmat or non hazmat in 11 western states ?

 

Driver, get out of the headache and get into the cash! Just kidding, I’m new to this fuel hauling and won’t look back after ten years of OTR! The title of this thread sums it up, “Give it a try” I am sure that most people are glad they did myself included I wouldn’t have it any other way ! I love it! I’m not sure if you will find companies that run that many states hauling fuel though, hazmat yes most of our fuel out here in Nebraska is pretty much local within 150 to 200 miles from the pipe and we’re home every day and in my case I making more than I ever did out on the road ! I know if you want to get in the fuel hauling I’m not sure how they do it but there are several guys that pull into the pipe that are leased on with some of the bigger companies that are owner operators. Owner operator in fuel hauling seems like it could be a huge liability is specially if you were to accidentally cross drop. In short if folks are wondering about wages, I’ll will just say this, I’m on load pay and I start around 5-6 am and some really good days I’m up over $250 by 2 in the afternoon with more hours to go. Yesterday was about a $400 day because things all worked out like clockwork it doesn’t happen like that every day though. Some days can kill your chances of big $$$ if your waiting at the pipe, thankfully our company pays hourly after an hour of waiting I’d say an average week would be equal to or better than OTR wages or $1100 to $1200 a week. I am really enjoying hauling fuel to gas stations. I can say that this is the only driving job, over 20 years, that I actually like doing. I used to enjoy OTR because I learned a lot listening to audio books and podcasts. But I still didn't really like it because of being gone all the time.

But, now, I can say that I do not really like fuel hauling when I'm doing 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. Maybe it's because I'm older. But I'm beginning to see some push back from other drivers about constantly being asked or forced to run 6 days a week. Sure the money is good. But at some point you have to think about longevity. 60 hours a week is enough for me. This is not OTR. But I'm sure the young people willing to work the 70 hours will come and push me out. And if they won't do it, foreigners will. And you would think 60 hours with the labor involved is a pretty solid week.

When I talk to other drivers about different jobs within the industry, the question that comes up a lot is, "do they get two days off?" And there are some places with rotating schedules with 2 on 3 off, or 6 on 2 off. But I'm talking specifically to the local fuel hauling jobs, fueling local gas stations. I fill 5-7 stations per shift. There are plenty of jobs hauling diesel out to the oil fields but I'm not interested in that right now. The solution is probably to become an owner operator but I have avoided that for various reasons. So it goes.
