You could buy a real nice old truck for 20k.

I bought a 2009 with 690K miles on it. It has 940K miles on it now. So far the engine issues I've had were a leaking cam frame housing, bad oil pick-up tube o-rings, a bad (plugged up) DPF doser nozzel, and a few oil leaks. I also had to replace the radiator, but that not exactly an engine issue. I use T5 oil. I do a PM every 35K. And I've run the overhead once.

It runs OK and pulls pretty strong for an engine this old. It's suppose to be 500 HP, but the most I've ever seen on the KR Scan Guage is 340. I think that 500 rating is at something like 2000 RPM's though (effectively just fiction).

Why t5 oil? That is not even recommended by Detroit, or any other engine oem. Delo, or Delvac.

Because I don't want to pay for T6. T5 meets all the specifications for modern diesel engines, and it's a synthetic blend. Particular brand recommendations are just bought, not engineered.

Rotella is not used by any oem. I wonder why?

Check the idle time on that ECM.
That will hurt that DPF faster than anything.
You don't see Punkins' idling much, so that should alleviate some worry.

The way some mega rookies drive, the gears should be worn down pretty smooth from all of the grinding.

I believe when they first put the idle shut down in the truck it didn't matter what the temp was. 100+ or -10 that truck wouldn't idle. Could you imagine

I second this. Our Cascadias are 2012/2013 vintage with the same exact engine and mileage sitting around 680k. We have had exactly the same issues: oil tube o-rings, radiator, dpf doser nozzle. Have'nt had any oil leaks yet, though, and we also run T5.

We did an egr delete just last year, put holes in the DPF and did away with the system. Also did away with the governor and gave the poor thing its balls back; hills aren't such a PITA anymore (this was the boss's choice). Truck's running fine now, and I guess we should be okay as long as we avoid the CARB Nazis in CA.

50k miles is the recommended intervals these days. They come with them special filters. I can't remember the name of the system at the moment. Bypass filtration or something like that.
