My journey with Schneider is coming to an end...

I am taking my truck to another company that is offering 85% with an increase to 87% after 60 days or so. The company consists of the owner operator and two other drivers that are leased onto him. I'll be the third....

I made this decision for several reasons. First and foremost is the lack of freight into and out of my house. Second is the 'safety' that Schneider constantly looks over your shoulder with. Third is the unknown changes coming to the lease agreement in April. Fourth is I have been with Schneider as an L/O for four years, it is time for a change. Hopefully a move up in the world...

I contacted my ICA today and informed her of my intentions. She was very cordial and cooperative, and said I could come back at anytime within six months without having to go through orientation again. I can go by an OC to have the Qualcomm and other things removed from my truck, or she can send me a shipping label I can use to send the items in myself. I elected for the shipping label, as I am planning to run the 3 Schneider loads I have on me and then dead head to my new company using Schneider's plates and such.....

I purchased my New York plates yesterday, cost me $1600 for the year. I purchased Non Trucking Liability insurance last week, my other insurance will come from my new company. I will also be renting a dry van trailer until I purchase my own...

My ICA said she just needs one day notice of when I intend to stop running loads for Schneider, so I'll call her next week as I am transferring over to my new company. I'll then have 45 days to return Schneider's items. Hopefully by the middle of next week I will be operating with my new company and using brokers on the spot freight market...

I have to say I am excited and nervous about this new opportunity. But I definitely know it is time for a change. I've actually known for a while it was time to move on, I've just dragged my feet until now....

If all goes well with getting my feet wet in the spot freight market and dealing with brokers, I hope to one day get my own authority. Time will tell..

The owner operator I am leasing onto is a member here on TTR. I'll let him decide if he wants to make his presence known...
