Newbie with USA

hey klotch57 are you going to arkansas for school? iam scheduled to start there on dec 29th. when do you start?

 

Hey 1badz28, actually was going to start the one on the 6th. Started doing the math on the costs and deductions from paycheck and decided to put myself though school at a local community college. $900 and no required 1 year obligation or having to pay back the $6,000 if it does not work out. They have recruiters come throughout school, some are same ones you hook up with from Drivers Solutions. Nothing bad to say, just decide to stay local and shoot for southern flatbed companies. Like a mix of the physical aspect in my routine, seems like a good fit for me. Good luck to you on 29th, let me know how it turns out. My suggestion is do thorough research and make sure it all fits for you before you obligate for that large a payback.

 

the Payback is not that large money wise, $995.00 was what I owed C1 after paying my hotel and testing fees up front, USA took $45.00 a week out and I got back almost $1,100.00 at the end of the year... but they know you are stuck for a year with them and will care less if you threatin to quit you only buying yourself the debt and have very little exp. to be looking for a better job... be wise , check out all your options before you leap, read the Axe is falling thread twice before you leap into a contract with USA...

Thanks for the tip panhandlepat about Averitt. Love the logo on your post. How bout the Tide this year! Love what Coach has done with the team, future looks good can't wait for Sugar Bowl. I actually start at Bevill State on same day, already passed my DOT physical, so first day will be mostly drug screen (No concern there at all) and start up stuff. Are you O/O or company driver? My niece's husband works for Landstar and he was telling me a bit about what they do contracting loads with O/O's, curious if you familiar with them.

 

Thanks Locdrjr for the info, I will check out that post. I had actually talked to recruiter about USA, was looking that way, then was being steered away to another company, then decided to do more research on the best fit for me, figured with the economy going south, did not feel like having the added debt pressure in case loads did not add up to enough money to pay my bills. Could not see going from bad to worse. Comm College route seemed like best way for me to talk one on one with recruiters face to face and see my overall options much better. I have apps and resume's out for other jobs that would have similar lifestyle as far as away from home time as this (truckin) would, so I want to make right move, not jump and regret later.

 

In regards to LandStar, 100% O/Op company. But some trucks do have drivers in them, small fleets that are leased on. Money wise over there, from what I am hearing things are not good, at least on the flat bed side of things. I was looking at their open board the other day, and not much in the way of freight. In fact, there was no freight where I was looking around Detroit. The one guy I do know over there is in starvation mode. But, that could just be him.

And LandStar is kind of a funny company to work with. They have their favorites, which is fine. But the way things are out here, can a guy survive long enough to make it into that clique?

Preciate the info Waterloo. I plan on talking to all the recruiters that come to the school I will be attending, realize right now all the trucking is slow, especially with economy down. If I have to I will plod through until it gets better or wait it out with what I can bring in and keep applying other fields of work while driving until something better hopefully comes along.

The sams thng happen last sunner 08 in Indiana.. when a big truck lost a set of dual off his trail and a city kitty = (city police) well he was the chiief of the police of some little town...(which is not good thing for the driver) anyway he had a 4 weeler pulled over on I-65 southbound and that when it happen the dual came off and hit and kill cop... Witnesses said the cop didn't see it coming as he was talking to the driver of the 4 weeler.... I think they trying to charged with negligent homicide... that what your pre-tip is for.. (its a way for them to make the driver responsible) and most state will try to hold you responsible if you kill somone in a big truck.. and you might do some prison time... so just keep that in the back of your mind next time you do a pre-tip....
