One outfit I worked for had a bunch of '06 Western Stars with EGR 14L in them. -
Pre egr ddec4 14L were built from 98-02. These are rare and majority were sold in Canada.
03 was the start of the ddec5 14L
Your 06 is most likely a 14Lthaistick, ODR, Bean Jr. and 1 other person Thank this. -
Can easily disable the egr via the barometric sensor...ugly fix.
-
-
If the truck had a DPF bypass then it has tuning to disable that also. And if it has that then I'm sure they would of done the egr also.. no one goes have assed on that . Get rid of it all or leave it alone. I'm sure this post will get deleated soon...
Why don't you just talk to a tuner that does this to find out for sure.
By the way. The ugly fix is a band aid at best.
Do it right. -

Looking at a 2005 with 60 series 14 DDEC IV with 469k on it for 38k. Good move or bad move? Seems pretty clear just worried about age and mileage.
-
That mileage seems very very low for that year truck. That does not sound right unless it is a local truck and if so I would look at idle time. Others can jump in here but first I think an 05 would be a DDEC 5. I have seen some 04 with DDEC IV but never a 05. I personally would not pay 38K for an 2005 truck. What kind of truck? The only truck I might consider for that price is a nice Classic. But it would have to be really nice and that mileage would have to be verified.
NCTru919 and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
If it's a fresh oil change then you have nothing.
In my opinion an engine with 1.5 million on it, has a high probability it's going to need an inframe not too far down the line. So budget for it, before buying.
Or move on, there are literally 1000's of trucks for sale.NCTru919 Thanks this.
